Why allow abortions for rape victims? All Republicans are scum.

Every conservative that I heard comment said, because of the left's history of lying, no secondary sources on the story, and the Indy Star's reluctance to answer basic questions that even your beloved WAPO had,, the story was suspicious. You had doubts too. I heard every single conservative say that if true, the person responsible needs to pay big time. So, your "gotcha" moment kind of fizzled Slugs.

that's the key question here.

Suppose we legislate that. Hospitals and medical facilities are going to be required to confirm those scenarios before performing these procedures. Do we really want to incentivize women to make false accusations?
I don't think it's a stretch to say that this would be a significant issue.

Allow abortion in cases of rape, but prohibit beyond the age of pain threshold for the fetus?...and leave the middle ground for discussion later...and call off the insurrectionist protesters trying to illegally intimidate the Justices?
Your question to ELP is a fair one. I personally don't think the rape of one person justifies the murder of another, innocent person. I don't see how you get there. But, you do. But let's set aside our hard core moral positions, and think like legislators, if only for a second. What compromise would you accept? Or, because there are a tiny number of rape pregnancies, must all elective abortion, for any reason, be allowed, in your view?
discussion...so I'll try to keep your thoughts in mind as well...
First off, rape and incest situations are thankfully rare, but as this USA Today article explains, they are fundamental to any progress on the issue...

From that article...
--------------------------
Nearly 80% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in the first trimester in cases of rape or incest, according to Gallup.
A coalition of anti-abortion groups led by Students for Life of America released a letter this week urging GOP leadership to reconsider their position on exceptions. Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, said she would prefer to see abortion laws passed without exceptions, though they aren't a dealbreaker.
"I personally have lobbied on behalf of legislation which includes exceptions because if we can work with people on the other side to ban 98% of abortions we'll take it. But when asked what we support, we tell them the truth, even though that's difficult to hear and gets you called nasty names on Twitter for a week," Hawkins said. "We know the circumstances of your conception don't change the fundamentals of what is created — a unique, distinct human being that has a right to life just like you or I."
------------------------------
If you can accept Ms. Hawkins' deal, we can talk about the "98%"...what say you?
As for ELP and Curly's concern about 'late term' abortions, see the KFF paper I've posted a couple of times already...only 1% of abortions occur after 21 weeks, and nearly all of them are for medical reasons. that a majority of Americans would acknowledge were justifiable.
Then, to Jake's comment about 'practicality', it deserves a good deal more discussion, because it touches on virtually "All" abortions...if no one else brings this up for further discussion...I will.

abortions...once we've had those discussions we can see what compromise/approach is preferable....make sense to you?

I would have no problem with early term abortion but am repu;lsed by late term elective abortions.
It's a blurry line with infanticide.
