Why spend 1st round money (+ draft picks) for a player who may play 5 games per season because of inevitable injuries, when a future Hall of Famer tackle (Slater) was there for the taking?
My buddies today: "Smith is a great pick!! Giants would have snagged him. He won the Heisman. He runs great routes. Unstoppable!"
Me: "Is the NFL now touch, ... no tackling? Lemme guess .... he won't lose any speed after his surgery?"
There are skilled fast guys in the 2nd and 3rd and 4th rounds.
1st rounders are long term investments. Risk v reward decision-making.

There is some good talent on that team.
Enough to make the playoffs.
Inexcusable, really.
Giroo as captain speaks for itself.
They play very well against the Pens. But poorly against the rest of the division.
It’s time to trade Giroo.
Of course he was a 2nd rounder.
I doubt one can predict that. In any event he played 47 games at Alabama against some good SEC competition and I wouldn’t say they played touch. His stats improved every year. In 2020 he even managed to return punts.
Time will tell as with all the other draft picks.

For my friends' sake, I hope the kid is a world beater, and stays healthy.
Just not a 1st round risk that makes sense to me.
