Should we just forgive everyone their debts of all kinds? E.Warren says that would reduce inflation.

Sounds like a win-win, so why limit ourselves to student loan debts?

I agree. I don't like this suggestion at all.

I feel bad for the people - the mostly poor people - who were snookered into paying for one of those worthless degrees at a for-profit diploma factory, many of which have gone under and now are under federal investigation. We could help them.

But in general I think that student debt forgiveness creates too much moral hazard to make it a worthwhile policy.

insurance industry set up for exactly that scenario.

Actually it would increase inflation. It’s the same as giving people cash equal to the forgiven loan

What I love is that forgiven debt is typically treated as income, but not the student loans. Complete horseshit. You borrow $ you pay it back.

Imposing corporate abuse, neglect and greed on deserving victims.

Why wouldn’t debt forgiveness be taxable income?

That way we would get a little of the largess back.

It typically is. There’s a special provision exempting student loans. Complete BS.

So too, Orwell and Huxley. None of them nailed it 100%...but they got so many basics right.
