While there is recognition on its part that it did wrong, it didn’t in any way seem remorseful or want to make amends. It should. In addition to costing the guy millions, it also ruined a significant portion of his life.
In contrast, T’eo seems like a great guy and a good person - basically what you’d want your son to grow up to be. He wishes the tranny well and forgave it. And the show was a nice reminder of his years at ND and how dark things got in the Davieweisingham era.
I guess we’re supposed to reflect on how the confused tranny might have acted differently if society accepted people like it. Hey the football player still made $10 mil in the NFL, and look at this poor fat schlub hiding in Samoa. Not compelling.
My wife furious at Roniah— thought they were perhaps the most narcissistic person she had ever seen. Roniah came across as believing they were justified for everything done.
The part about Manti’s recruitment to ND was the biggest surprise to me. Talked about his preference for USC, how hard it was to adjust, etc.
Jack came off well. No interviews (or mention) of Brian Kelly.
The journalistic malpractice was something that wasn’t mentioned much at the time, but is a reminder of how far that “profession” had fallen even a decade ago.
Because that line in their article became a huge talking point. It's not just that it was in the article. The author was on SportsCenter, First Take, etc. the very next morning, and repeatedly answered publicly that he believed Manti was in on it.
It's clear that somewhere after that, he learned and accepted otherwise. Without that claim tucked in on the front end, this never would have looked as bad for Manti or Notre Dame.
These are sports reporters. They are lied to all the time by everybody. Do we really expect Alex Flanagan to run off the field and start googling Lennay after Manti says something? It's basically all just entertainment.
I’m sure that, if it hadn’t happened, Alabama would not have been up 35-0 at the half.
I think it could have been more like 28-0.
Manti, tho.
Like he says in the documentary - they got beaten by a very good Alabama team.

That was definitely a contributor to the loss. Not sure we can blame the whole thing on it. After all, BK was coach.
Seriously, how did Roniah get the chick whose picture he had been using take a photo with a date card?
She thought she was sending it along to a young kid who was sick. I don’t think she was involved.

It does not appear that she and Ronaiah were actually close or even friends. They had a social media connection, but both stated that they didn't know each other well. That lends credibility to the idea that she was doing this as a favor for a sick kid, because there really is no other reason she would agree to it if she didn't know Ronaiah. It's not like he had money that he could pay her to do it. Here, you had a "Christian musician" reaching out and telling this young woman that a sick child would love a picture of her, and can she hold up this sign in a selfie to show that it was "just for her."
If they were lying about how well they knew each other, I don't that would've gotten past the filmmakers. They dug out everything.

As if the conversations and "support" provided to him really inspired him to be his best.

the story.
But if it's true, it was incredibly stupid and short-sighted....it put his and his family's lives in a fish bowl for months, and humiliated everyone. So if he did that, he was apparently too stupid to understand that the blowback wouldn't be limited to just Manti.
Plus the reviving the dead persona at the particular point they did supports your theory. Trying to destroy the guy.
Manti comports himself swimmingly, because he is a genuinely good person.
The obese tranny thing, however, is a horrible person that is consumed with finding itself on its selfish journey of discovery. Whoops, sorry I destroyed your life, but I need to explore my gender identity.
I think Manti’s best friend will hunt down the tranny and kill it a la Wahlberg’s character in the departed.

I thought the documentary was very well done.
