“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”
― Alexander Fraser Tytler
...btw, I'm curious as to what Tytler would say regarding the substantial subsidies that corporations...especially those in the Fossil Fuel industry...insist upon.
We should discuss this topic with a broader view...i.e. the burgeoning Wealth Gap in America that makes it so necessary for lower income families to incur out-sized debt relative to their means if they want to improve their lot in life.
As I say, this issue demands much more attention....anyone willing to engage in a discussion?

I think most everyone is sick of lobbyists running things and both parties suck in this regard.

They might be worse than everyday folk because they use llobbyists to bribe politicians.

The results: we have a president most people don't approve his job. We have a Congress dominate majority are not satisfied with.
How stupid and unproductive this so- called democracy is. But for those democracy fundamentalists democracy is their religion, they don't care.

From fiscal irresponsibility to lax criminal enforcement to immigation sanctuaries to gender fluidity to over regulation and taxation.
If it gets them elected and re-elected they blind themselves to the inevitable negative consequences.
This is why decadence is just part of the natural order.

I guess we are just going to get more movie stars to head over into the war zone to help deliver everything.
We are truly a nation in decline morally, intellectually, economically and militarily. Our children and grandchildren will live in a country none of us will recognize and it will not be pretty. The worst of it is that it is just human nature taking it's course and it is no longer if but when the total collapse will take place. The US has served as the world's hegemon for more than 100 years but that is coming to an end and, unfortunately the country taking our place (China) is unlikely to be as freedom loving and magnanimous as we have been to say the least.
