national championship these days.
Oops.
Someone forgot to tell Jay Wright.
I'm old enough to remember that he was in the running for the ND job when they hired Mike Brey.
[Insert Lament]
You would have wanted him gone the previous two years. First round losses with highly ranked teams. Also it is a little easier to recruit in a basketball city like Philly and Villanova does have an easier set of standards than us.
Always an excuse.

They have zero commitment to providing the basketball program anything that could help it compete on the national level with the powerhouses. Look at the facilities that the other sports have (Arlotta, Compton, Eck, The Gug etc). Hoops has the Pit and the 1968 JACC. Even with the recent renovations it pales in comparison to what other major D1 programs have to offer. Anyone that is remotely familiar with the program will tell you that the school has no interest in constructing a new basketball facility and has no time for anyone who broaches the subject. It's a disgrace and an utter slap in the face to Mike Brey. Speaking of Villanova they have one of the top 10 college basketball facilities in the country. It's no coincidence that once the Davis center was complete, Villanova made the Final Four in 09 and then won it all this year.
I like Brey (might be in the minority here) and think he has done well competing with NC, Duke, others that have bigger brands or lower standards.
I do have a problem when we say it is not possible to compete when we see Nova, Butler, Gonzaga etc. in the mix.
I keep hearing ND doesn't have the facilities. What does that mean? All you need is a court with the ability to put 4 baskets on the side...doesn't ND already have that? And they have a weight room. What else do they need for basketball?
