I looked at Sagarin ratings BEFORE yesterday's game against the weakest opponent on the schedule. It was 285!
Maybe ND is good this year; maybe back to historic mediocrity. Who knows?
This is Brey pumping his record with an embarrassing array of college BB nobodies.
I hope they're terrific. I think they will be closer to average than that, but we'll see as soon as the J.V. schedule is [mercifully] over.
We'll know more after Purdue and Nova.
Northwestern and Indiana Fort Wayne are the signature wins this year. Iowa stinks and Colorado has played no one. If we can beat Purdue, that would be a great win.
They lost the guy who I thought was their weak link, but he played well last year, I am talking about Archiejughead or whatever his name was.

That's my only major gripe about how Brey coaches. When playing a relatively equal or better team and ND gets the lead by running a normal offense for 35 minutes, the last 5 he all of a sudden plays stall ball on offense, burning the clock until 10 seconds remain, and then of course they put up a horrible shot almost every time.
In almost every case, the other teams mounts a comeback. Why he can't see this is mystifying.
This is the same way my SA Spurs play, only they do it to perfection. With 7 seconds left they run the offense and find the open man.
Brey has been a terrible end of the game coach and has lost countless games under pressure. I remember many games where CQ,CT, and DJ were forced to chuck up wild shots because they could not draw up a designed play. His use of time outs was awful as well. His teams are perfect for the administration. You will never get fired, do the best you can, and no major scandals except for the one you caused that should have got you canned.

It seems Brey is also using his bench a little better this year.
In years past, too few guys played all of the minutes.
I would like to see Torres and Gibbs get more minutes.
I am also impressed by the efforts from the big Lithuanian center.
Great looking team thus far. Will need more bigs to contribute when they play the really tall, long teams:
UNC
Ville
Etc.
go irish !!!
