to land players who will stay just one year. It is possible the admin would not allow Brey to even recruit those players. However, by getting players who will stay at least three years, the players play together longer as a team and develop.
to a final Four. That being said I don't want a bunch of one and doners but I just want want 7" 2" guy with the brains of Bill Walton who won't leave for the money but if he does will come back eventually to get his degree.
make more use of redshirting players like Matt Farrell and John Mooney. Yes, he's doing that with Djogo and he essentially did that with Burns, but a guy like Mooney is too valuable to blow a year of eligibility on garbage minutes in a few non-conference games against low-level competition.
Brey had no choice. And, Burns is either still injured or not as good as hoped because he has been invisible since the first few games. Mooney may come in more if ND actually gets in a game that is a blow out one way or another.
...as a condition of his coming to ND. That's just a guess on my part, but it wouldn't be the first time it happened.
And in general for guys who are probably not NBA prospects. Looked at the plethora of 5th year grad transfers.
