The motto for Mediocre Mike has always been a .500 record in conference play and we use the wins for an awful non-conference schedule to make the tourney. His idiot followers and the administration love the underdog role and embrace it to the max. He is the coach that does more with less and we are lucky to have him. A sweet 16 is the same as winning a national championship in their eyes. I don't blame Brey for the state of the program but you think as a supposedly elite coach, he would have had offers from top quality programs that have more prestige and money to offer. Either he is not highly thought of around basketball circles as a top flight coach or he is satisfied with collecting a paycheck and staying in the background. Less pressure and a steady paycheck. Maybe he knows he cannot recruit in the cesspool of the AAU circuits and prefers an easier way of recruiting.
I always thought my alma mater strived to be the best in academics and athletics but the mission has gone awry.
When we have just been to the Elite 8 twice? Your hate for liberals I assume your a Trump fan, you certainly like to use some "alternative facts".
You've been doing this since law school no? Like Coffee more than Chocolate?
I would think these comments would apply to the football program before the b-ball. 2 consecutive elite 8 finishes is much more a national contender than the football program. The players do seem to develop under Coach Brey and seldom has a player ever talked negatively about the coach or program.
We're coming off back to back elite 8 s, Not sure where mediocrity or an understanding of what your referring to, Remember where the program was when Digger was shown the door? It took a decade to get out of that mess, I think your expectations are a lot higher than reality in terms of Notre Dame basketball. Do you think kids are wanting to go to notre dame over other elite basketball programs and coach Brey is not recruiting correctly? It's apparent to me that player development is very good under this staff, and the coaches are doing a wonderful job given the level of ACC play and how competitive our league is year in and year out.
There are a lot of great universities and colleges throughout this country including Notre Dame, but I think you have a lack of accepting the caliber of other great schools that are obviously attracting both outstanding players and parents that support the decision to attend those schools over Notre Dame. Just look at the league, Virginia, North Carolna, Wake Forest, Duke, on and on with outstanding, elite universities.
Every year it is the same old story as we are destroyed on the backboards and are intimidated by a shot blocker time and time again. I cannot name the last true big man we actually recruited that had a decent career at ND. It is our achilles heel and yet we do nothing to solve the problem. Brey loves 3 for 2 but that will not win you a title. If posters are satisfied with a Sweet 16 ceiling here than that is great for you. I hope we are striving for something more. Unless we clean house at the admin. end, that is probably all that fans can hope for. Whooopeee
It is frustrating to see ND out-athleted time and time again inside, I agree.
But Auguste came close to what you want. If he had developed a 10-foot jump shot, he would have been deadly.
Do we know if Brey is trying to recruit athletic big men? Maybe he is and is striking out.
I thought Pat Connaughton's national television endorsement of Brey as "the best coach in America" right before the Kentucky game might have resonated with some high school elites. I guess not.
