Ah, my sophomore year. NC in football, Final 4 in basketball, hockey was ranked #1 at one point. I think they won the fencing title as well.
45 is Batton. I think the other guy on the court was Tripucka. Hanzlik was more of a bit player that year.
I hit a jumper over Duck at the Rock. Last shot I got off.Branning was in some of my classes. Very nice guy as well as Bill H.. Batton was a star high school player who lived in my area. He was a classmate of my brother's at ND. Those were great times. Never forget when we beat USF and Bill Cartwright.James "Trouble "Hardy smacked Bill H. after the game.
I attended the same high school as he albeit different generations. He is the best player to ever come out of Springfield H.S. Great family and a great guy. My Dad has a signed photo of him, Willie Fry and Joe Montana together after a bookstore basketball game.
I grew up a few towns over from Batton.
Knute, you get mad at me for ripping Brey but I am dead right on his no bench development. I have always believed he is an average coach. He recruits kids who stay 4 years and develop in his system and that works to his advantage but I cannot stand his underdog role. The Mr. lovable good guy crap has gone stale. He has good teams and some years dogs. We are in serious trouble next year by the looks of the sophs. Bad recruiting will do you in.
I am not even mad tonight with first half. This team is worn down and these road games can kill you. I will say that Ryan is just not a part of the rotation. His one three was negated by turnovers and bad defense. A nice kid who has not panned out so far.
Just saw the scoreboard, it shows "at forward, 6'6" and a Freshman, from Essex Fells, New Jersey, #44, Kelly Tripucka".
