One of the best strokes I've seen. I'll rue this more than most here, apparently.
I can see a Big East program bringing him in.
D.J. Harvey's arrival probably influenced the decision to a certain extent, along with what he's seen of Djogo in practice.
He shot 43% on threes which is pretty phenomenal. He showed up in the tourney and I was looking forward to him next year killing teams with threes. If Vasturia feeds him after he had just hit one three and was set up for another, when we were only down six, we might have pulled that game out. We got to watch Vasturia take his flat 3 point shot instead.
Let's face it, ND is never going to recruit the type of athletes UNC, Duke, Louisville, and of some other ACC schools..One way Brey competes so successfully, and to neutralize the talent gap, ND relies heavily on 'treys"..I think they led the ACC this year in 'treys"..Ryan was the successor in waiting so to speak, taking over for VJ and SV...Beachem hit 87, SV 58 treys.. Brey's system relies on guys like Ryan growing into their role..There is no one on current team who possesses Ryan's shooting ability..Im surprised Brey wasn't able to talk him into staying....
Much more than this that meets the eye. I guess someday we will get the full story.Honestly, if he feels he is owed a spot, but does not want to compete, that is another story.
I agree, its hard to figure..Maybe he sees bench and incoming guys, and fears competition, who knows, he is rather one dimensional..But with that one dimension, i.e. ability to shoot the basketball, in dire need next yr, its basically his job to lose..Makes no sense..
Obviously, not knowing the whole story it is difficult to understand this move. Never like to see a player transfer but things happen. On paper it seemed he would have been a main contributor next season.
I am only a little disappointed, as I had hoped that he would have made the improvement that many of the 3rd year guys have made under Brey. However, his loss is in no way any kind of crippling blow to the program. I think that Mooney, Djago or Harvey can easily replace his production.
I always questioned whether Ryan had the right attitude to blend into the system that Brey ran. He seemed to me to be a guy who was only interested in hunting his shot.
