He then throws up wild shots against 2 or more taller defenders. How many points is he costing ND every game by doing this?
Gibbs is a very good player who will become great once he has the offseason to practice his pull up jumper and his left hand handle. I do not fault him because he is our only real athletic and basketball talented player. Pflueger just frustrates me because he makes a sequence of two great plays in a row then screws up carelessly when he should not. I do not know why Harvey is having such a tough time shooting right now, he came in acclaimed for his shooting and overall basketball ability. He does rebound well. Geben missed a shitload of short shots after beautiful post up moves. He has to put a little more air under them and either make sure he banks some or make sure he doesn't. No in between stuff. I am hoping we get to the tourney and Bonzie comes back because this team with a full lineup is capable of doing damage in the tourney.
It's a problem I see in all of college basketball, not just with Gibbs. Player fakes out the defender and then drives the baseline. Instead of hitting a wide-open 15-footer, he continues to the rim where he is met by 2 or more taller defenders and then throws up a wild shot that misses 95% of the time.
A college basketball guard who can't make an uncontested 15-footer at least 2/3 of the time should be on the bench.
