As I've been saying, this season is over..
In terms of getting to the Dance, it is looking pretty grim. The season is not over in my mind though.
If we can get 4 more regular season wins, I think we go to the NIT. We could have our full roster back and might do some damage. This is the best rebounding and defensive team that I recall under Brey. We can have some good offense when we add a healthy MF, Harvey and Bonzie to that mix. I'll take an NIT championship where we are playing a big chunk of the ACC season with only 7 scholarship players.
Our core players for next years team are getting a great expedited leaning experience, especially on the importance of rebounding and defense. Gibbs, Rex, ( co-captains), Harvey and Mooney are the core I believe. Rex will be Rex but the other 3 I expect will see significant growth in their games. Add to that Durham and we have our starting 5. Hubbs, Burns, Carmody, Djogo are the likely backups. I hope we redshirt Goodwin and Doherty because I want eligibility spacing and I think a 5th year would be better than a 1st with them.
I don't think it is a lost season.
floor now. No matter how mad you get at Gibbs for taking it to the hoop he is a warrior and the only real basketball playing, talented athlete on our team. Geben has good basketball moves but is a little slow. Mooney knows the game but is a little slow. Pflueger has little basketball ability and is just a good athlete.
with Bonzie and Matt; its obviously a NCAA tourney team with those 2..It looks like our hopes for the NCAA are down to having a fully healthy team for post season ACC tourney, and winning it...a very tall task considering that Bonzie will have to get acclimated to game time shape again..
and then win 2 in the ACC tourney I think we could still get in based on the committee knowing how good we could be with Bonzie and Farrell, and even the freshman contributing more.
Not sure how many teams could survive that. I feel sorry for Colson and Farrell. As seniors, starting the season, it looked like a great end to their careers.
