Bobby Knight said the most important skill in basketball is the ability to shoot, and we saw it tonight at Duke. They made virtually everything and ND made virtually nothing.
gets better results when he is falling over and relying on athleticism rather when he is stepping up and in good shooting rhythm. It just amazes me, even at the foul line he makes 1 out of 2 or 1 out of 3. He has no touch on his foul shots and his regular shot is often 5 inches off left or right which is absolutely ugly.
He is a glue guy. He is our best defender. He gets rebounds, assists and hustle points. He is our best athlete who makes everyone else better without requiring the offense to go through him. He is being asked to be a scorer and ball handler while playing 40 minutes with few credible scorers surrounding him.
I think he will be a captain next year averaging 30 minutes a game surrounded by guys who can get the ball into the hoop.
than good plays so he has to play within a system but make a truly athletic play once in a while to be an asset. His tip in as a freshman was typical of the type of play he makes as a good play but he makes so many bad plays and shoots poorly that overall he cannot be effective without some talent around him.
He hustles but is an average defender, turnover prone and cannot shoot...if he gets major minutes next year, they are in big trouble.
Rex will be our only senior. One other quality that he has is that he is focused on the game when he is in there. Other players might let their mind wander but not Rex. What was the game where Rex won it with the final seconds put back? He ran from half court following Gibbs while the opposing players watched.
40 minutes a game is too much. I am guessing 30 next year. It depends on how well Hubbs recovers I think.
He would not start for any top 25 teams...hurts the team when on the floor because of his inability to score...better off coming off the bench when Brey has his full complement of players...tough to watch...I pray that Brey does not start him next year.
