didnt we have a problem with davie and weis where we didn't have a QB on scholarship
as opposed to sharing time. Love the confidence.
When both QBs are this talented you have to get them both on the field. I think this will work out nicely.
It just is hard to make work.
Most important thing is splitting 1st team practice reps each week. That not only hurts the QB's but the other players building continuity.
It's hard to get in a rhythm when you are splitting reps in a game.
It's hard to play when you know that if you have a bad series, the other guy might be going back in.
In this specific situation you have a right handed guy and a left handed guy. That's a big thing.
One likes to throw line drives, the other likes to have some arch on the ball.
One that likes to move around in the pocket and one that would like to get outside the pocket. That is hard for the OL to get used too.
The cadence will be different.
As much as they will dismiss, the locker room has their opinions. That can go bad quickly.
If I were Kelly, I'd name a starter and stick with it. If the other one transfers, so be it. The guy behind both of them is probably going to be better than either of them anyhow.

I'd note though that I like Zaire being a lefty wanting to leave the pocket having McGlinchey and Nelson on the left side.

I think it was Irish Illustrated, maybe Blue and Gold. Synopsis goes like this:
Both QBs are playing at a high level and have similar skill sets which don't require completely different offensive installations. However, both bring a unique style of play to the game which will be valuable to the gameplan of beating Texas. Game prep is extended for Texas which makes a two QB approach more feasible. Once we beat Texas, keep the two QB system going. Nevada is arguably our easiest game on the schedule and we should be able to win pretty easily. Two QB system will still be in place following Nevada.
The advantages are that you keep two high quality quarterbacks engaged, competing, and likely improving their craft going into week three. You also force Mich St. to game plan for two different quarterbacks in week three. (And Mich St. plays no one before our game so they basically have all summer and the first two weeks of the season to prep for the ND game, it's really insane)
By week three, I suspect the coaches will see some separation and have a better idea of the direction they want the offense to continue in.
My prediction is that by week three we'll see one QB taking the majority, if not all, of the reps.

If Kelly is planning to distribute time equally, then I think this experiment will fail. Many coaches have tried to do this and it rarely works. If one of the qbs is used in specific situations, then it has a chance to succeed.
Btw, with Davie and Weis, it wasn't that they didn't have a qb. It was that they did not have a backup qb when it was needed.
