I think when he lost three in a row to underdogs, BC, BYU, and Air Force in 1994 and then to,...
Air Force again with a potential national championship team in 1996, he got burned out. There were a lot of people calling for his head believe it or not. I think that loss to Air Force finished his attitude at ND.
Holtz only lost Air Force once (96 OT).

Based on preparation, motivation and a plan to take advantage of opponents weaknesses...
Lou's teams had the opportunity to win every game.
Game announcers comment on why BK isn't taking advantage of the o's weaknesses. It's like BK goes in with same game plan week in and week out. He's blind to whom the o is. Mind boggling.
Kelly seldom admits to a specific mistake he has made.
But he is outstanding at throwing his players under the bus.
That, and teams that win tend to have rowdy engaged crowds. ND has neither a crowd or motivating HC

You are right our crowds are sophisticated and polite. Penn State"s were rowdy the whole night.
We may have a lot of people that do better over 40 years but our football engagement is mediocre at times. Penn State does not need a band to get their fans ready, our band has the worst timing when it comes to keeping the fans out of the game. They stop playing before the play and the crowd stops with them.
The ND stadium atmosphere is atrocious and odd compared to most other places in the country.
