BREAKING: 4-star DB Derrik Allen commits to Notre Dame
Elko is all over Twitter posting when recruits commit. He is retweeting stuff. He's fully engaged.
BVG made 1 post on Twitter that I can find and it was at the end of 2015.
Couple of things really jump out to me about that 1) why was he so disengaged 2) why in the hell didn't Kelly go in to his office and demand he start tweeting or hell, at least get a freaking intern to manage the account. It's like Kelly could say, "well his results speak for themselves so I don't care he doesn't tweet".
Just curious as to what your thoughts are. Do you think some of these recent commitments may be impacted by the fact that this will be a smaller incoming class? Such that some of these kids are essentially reserving their spot early.
They have some great momentum right now and adding Micah Jones would add to that and would be a fantastic addition to the WR corps. I really like that Elko and the defensive staff have been aggressive, a refreshing change from previous DC's. I really hope that Lyght has some success on both the recruiting trail and coaching the CB's up this next season. He and Autry are easy guys to root for, very likeable and alums. Wish them much success.
No matter how you slice it.

It is not a blunder that can not be explained..The same guy who had to fire his incompetent DC,has his team throwing the football through a hurricane, blames his players and watches his coaches abandon ship after he loses the team early 2016,I am tempted to say Kelly is a major obstacle to our success...OK I said it...Go Irish 2017..Long run the damn ball and use the tight end with Wimbush rolling out...Elko like Karmello has said...Teach press coverage...Be an attacking defense..
1. BK is enamored by 'systems', not how football is played
2. BK's depth is division 3 types, thus a BVG can easily fool him
3. BK wasn't smart eneough to get rid of him when it was quite obvious that BVG was a failure
While it's easy to argue that Kelly's attitude has sucked at times - I've written columns about - and that he makes some bad in-game decisions, he's never made a decision as bad as BVG that I can think of. He compounded the matter by bringing him back in 2016 and not demanding he become a more active recruiter. I get every other mistake Kelly has made - I do not justify them at all - but I understand them based on his history. I do not understand the BVG blunder.
He got a tremendous amount of PR for his fist pumping during the Michigan game after a sack and the shut out of Michigan that year. So what the hell happened? Lazy or bad recruiting appears to be one thing but the system complexity that became a big topic were not even mentioned after his first two games. So what else was it?
He's in the same boat as Jon Tenuta was.
Most folks thought that Tenuta was decent after we crushed Colin Kaepernick and his Nevada team, but that turned out to be fools gold. Maybe his "jailbreak blitz every down" strategy can work with a team that has a gifted defensive line, and linebackers who can shoot the gap effectively, but with our personnel it certainly wasn't a good strategy, and our defensive backs were left hung out to dry. To make things worse, Tenuta never altered his defensive philosophy, despite having cost us several games in 2009.
Van Gorder was the same way, that he wouldn't make any adjustments to his scheme.
is there from Elko. BVG apparently was very bad or did not know he was allowed to make general comments on this without speaking of a particular recruit and talking about that particular recruit, until that recruit is officially signs his letter of intent. Am I accurate on this?

That's a big defensive back, and someone who can move with decent speed. I haven't seen this combination of size and speed at ND ever since Bobby Taylor.
