Link: Nick Watkins Return A Huge Boost for Notre Dame Secondary
They didn't want to put too much on Crawford, who was recovering from his torn ACL.
Alas, Watkins broke his arm in the summer, Crawford started opposite Luke, and promptly tore his Achilles against Nevada in a non-nickel situation.
With Coleman and White getting a look at safety, we have five corners right now including Crawford who I don't know how much we can count on off the Achilles.
I was excited for Watkins last year and don't see the injury last year impacting him this fall. Love the three current frosh, soon to be sophs but that is dangerously thin depth right now.
Also, I expect either Coleman or White to move back to CB if they don't land in the 2 deep at safety (seems unlikely both would be in 2 deep).
Every time Crawford makes a cut or a tackle or sprints down the field, I will be holding my breath at this point.
Last year Notre Dame lost 3 corners to injury - Crawford, Watkins, and Butler (Butler ended up being suspended too). That pressed all the freshmen into action. We don't have any incoming freshmen this year and Butler and Luke are both gone.
Numbers will be scary at CB.

tackle a guy in space...when he as more space, more time, and a build up of speed and momentum.
Put guys up tight and that makes a worllllld of difference.

Then I remember Notre Dame was slated to start Lo Wood at corner in 2012 and had to turn to a true freshman running back to start opposite a former wide receiver, neither of which had ever started a game in college. These things tend to work out ok.
