...I don't think he's going to be nearly the wreck he was last year.
It could simply have been that maybe he's good at seeing things from afar, but when it's crunch time, he's as blind as Ray Charles.
We now know the culture around the team was stale, they were young, the Zaire/Kizer situation clearly hurt them, the team was going through the motions, workouts were on a "come when you can" basis. Basically, it was a disaster.
I could see a guy like Booker simply being overmatched for a culture like that and doing well at a place that's a lot more stable and healthy.
Gilmore was an established coach with a good track record. I think he was in a no win situation with Vangorder first and then when Elko came in and wanted to bring his LB coach with him, they needed to make room for Elston leaving Gilmore odd man out. In terms of straight up DL coaching, I would give the nod to Gilmore over Elston too but in the grand scheme of things, Elston had to be retained to salvage recruiting. Elston has also done a really good job as a recruiting coordinator and that is not something I could see Gilmore taking over without any experience in that role.
Booker though never really impressed me. I think he got elevated too quick and perhaps a step back will do his career some good. Still a very young coach with room to grow.
early on, but that was about it.

anent position.
I was just adding on that he was likely to come at a low price making him attractive for Kelly in that regard.
Which isn't to say he didn't have any coaching ability, but they were things in his favor that didn't include his coaching acumen.
