1st team defense looked good. 2nd team not so much.
Worst talent level?- fuck off.
The tackling still left a lot to be desired. The angles taken by defenders were still awful. Most defenders appeared to have cinder blocks attached to their cleats. Bottom line, we better score a ton of points this year.

Like all but a few of our defenses the last 25 years or so.
Lots more talent on offense...again, in keeping with recent norms.
hit the QB.
That's the problem with the Blue-Gold game...hard to tell if one unit is progressing or another unit is regressing.

Since it was offense vs. defense, easy to see that second team offense is significantly ahead of second defense. Most obvious takeaway for me. Staff is trying to rectify with better defensive recruiting.
Significant depth at WR, and also OL and TE. At RB, Tony Jones will help to bolster thinner but very good RBs. Lot to like about Book but let's be clear-Wimbush's release, arm strength and speed are sensational. Decision deficiences will be rectified in time. Clearly has command of team.
Offense plays much quicker and crisply than I imagined. Their uptempo mode will rival anyone. We expected this from Long.
Our OL had hands full with Hayes , Hayes and #91, who is a beast in the making. Cage and Tillery more than adequate. Bonner and others must support.
Tackling better than before. DBs contest ball whether they are in jam/press or cushion.
D. Hayes an animal. Can line up in rush or drop and defends the flats with authority. This guy will be a Day 1 selection.
Ecko has the attention of our D. They love the ability to play instinctively and in positions suited to their talents. Ask Tranquill.
My standard response to everyone who wants to know how we will do this year is simply better than last. I cannot see beyond that.
Your comment on BW performance "...decision deficiencies will be corrected in time"
From your lips to God's ear. Unfortunately this has not been the case in recent ND history.
Granted this was only a spring scrimmage but definitely not the premiere performance a fan would have hoped for. Wimbush demonstrated less than hoped for pocket presence, seemingly oblivious to his surroundings.
Agreed his attributes make him the clear choice, but that performance doesn't inspire great hope for the upcoming season.

Book showed some pretty good pocket presence.
Book did very well until the final drive, when he was obviously trying to force some things.
