When will ND dangle this kind of money to get a Saban type coach?
OK, I jest.
Jesus Bama's OLB coach makes almost a million a year.

Like Kelly did in 2016 after his extension...

...along with the rest of his staff.
The way I see it, if you produce 4 NC's, several near-misses (that were still excellent seasons), and get the alums and donors to open up their wallets that much, you've certainly earned it. That's even more impressive, considering that he has nowhere near the thuggish baggage of Urban Meyer.

That wouldn't even keep Saban in walking around money.

So even @ $3M average per year, it would be $30M lifetime for the contract which isn't a wacky amount.
Weis wasn't getting $6M annual from ND.
ND, our leadership leaves one thinking the requirement doesn't apply at the top...
Would have bankrupt the University.
There....doesn't that make you feel better?
I'm not saying Saban and his staff aren't worth whatever they can get.
It is going to lead to the death of college football as we know it. There are only 15-20 schools that can afford those salaries. The rest of the schools will be in one gigantic mediocre division. Adding a 10th assistant this year is just greasing the slope.
Absolutely. For the past 15 years or so I've noticed that CFB has increasingly become an arms race. The rich will get richer and weed out the schools that can't keep up financially.
I personally want to blame the NFL, because if there were a good NFL "minor" league system CFB would not be in the place that it is now. However, it's the greed by the NCAA and the top performing schools/conferences that are really to blame. I have come to loathe the NCAA because it has indirectly promoted all of the crimes that we see in the media (ex. rapes at Baylor). Not to mention their lack of interest in punishing UNC for blatant academic fraud violations. It's become quite a cesspool.
