Do'n't call me an idiot etc please. (Whatsamaata U has called me an idiot and an ass hole on every post I have made before, Im sorry Im not as cool as you)
I hear rumblings of ND joining the ACC getting louder., and even that it would be more lucrative to join.
Please clear it up for me. y understanding has been that its a financial decision to stay independent
1 No exclusive tv deal
2. Possibly losing USC or Stanford
Please clear it up for me what the main reasons are, and if ND will or won't join, and if so, when,
information from any CREDIBLE news outlet or journalist about ND football and conference affiliation.
It's all speculation and "click bait."

The ACC should have 2 divisions of 8 teams and require that you play the other 7 teams in your division (with each division champion based solely off these 7 games). Your other 5 games can be against any school you want. If you want to schedule teams from the other division, go ahead. If you want to schedule teams from outside the ACC, go ahead. Essentially this would make 2 mini conferences for ACC football and a 16 team conference for all other sports.

Brando has speculated that it will be more profitable for ND to join a conference based on TV money, and he's technically right. ND's NBC deal is not as good as the ACC's ESPN deal. He's also argued that going into the ACC will make it easier for ND to get a playoff spot (in a vacuum this is also likely true).
Swarbrick has denied the ND is in negotiations with the ACC regarding football membership. There are several reasons why ND will likely continue to stay independent for now:
1) scheduling - With 8 conference games per year + Stanford, USC and Navy. ND would only have 1 game left on the slate, and they would probably choose to play a mid-major at home for this game...no other way to get to 7 home games per year. This would end ND's ability to ever play Big 10 teams again and end their ability to schedule marquee home-and-home series against the likes of Texas and Georgia. Also, I believe all the ACC teams have to play at least 1 Thursday night game per year per the TV deal. Doubt ND wants to do that.
2) recruiting - Playing a national schedule is important for ND's recruiting. Staying only on the East Coast (along with 1 trip out West per year) would hurt ND's recruiting in Texas and the midwest where ND would no longer be relevant.
3) tradition - ND doesn't like to make changes it doesn't need to make
4) TV/Playoff - With cord-cutting costing ESPN millions, it would be short-sighted for ND to make any long-term decisions based solely on short-term TV money. Flexibility is the key here, and ND has that as an independent. Also, with TV money potentially drying up, look for the NCAA to look for other ways to increase revenue - namely more playoff games. I expect a 6 or 8 team playoff sometime in the future, meaning a 1-loss ND team is unlikely to get shut out.
What rumblings? The only talk was generated a few days ago by that idiot Tim Brando, who claimed that ND and the ACC were in discussion for ND to join for football. No other rumblings other than Brando. Swarbrick shot that down by stating that there was absolutely no truth to what Brando was saying. Then Brando backed off his original statement by claiming that he was only speculating as to what ND and the ACC should do.
There was no other "rumblings" that I am aware of other than the Brando one that was immediately shot down by Swarbrick. It was just another example of a media creature drawing attention to himself by starting a rumor about Notre Dame.
