Jumbotron, luxury boxes, fake grass.....just like every other football factory. Can't wait for the Greater Michiana Auto Dealers 'find the football under the helmet' entertainment!
We are no longer unique.
Football factories win more than 8 games a year.
the addition of the crossroads, no chance of it growing well enough to survive week to week.
I like it.
Adapt or die.
People sell out big bucks to go to games and it was ridiculous that everyone was in the dark whenever a play was under review. I don't get any argument against the Jumbtron assuming its not plastered with ads.
Knute Rockne was an innovator - he would not have sat idle and ignored technology that improved the fan experience.
I've only seen a jumbotron enhance the viewing experience one time, at the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. And that was only because no ads were allowed. (I'll try to ignore the unfortunate public service announcement that Weis made.)
At Oklahoma in 2012 it was loud, in your face, and a complete distraction. The worst was probably at Nebraska in 2001, where they called it 'HuskerVision'. One each giant screen in opposing corners of the stadium that amounted to a 3.5 hour VERY LOUD infomercial. It ruined an otherwise great atmosphere. (Never mind the ass kicking we received that day).
Now, riddle me this - how much confidence do you have in the bean counters that currently run ND to use it effectively?
That doesn't mean they won't use the jumbotron for their own infomercials like when they trot different teams and organizations on the field during games though.
I work in marketing so the ads really don't both me since there would be no such thing as "free" internet content if it weren't for advertising. That said, every NFL game I've ever gone to has been enhanced by a jumbotron. For any Eagles home game I've been to, I make it a point to make sure I am in my seat in time for the Rocky montage mixed with Eagles highlights that happens right before kickoff.
That and the whole being able to see replays and knowing if/when I need to get really any at the official vs. really angry at the player/coach. I used to take a little MP3 player with a FM tuner into games just to listen to the play by play so that when there were replays I knew what was going on. Many times I'd have a bunch of people huddled around me when they heard I had the game radio to hear what was happening.
Agreed, if we don't move with the times, we fall behind. I was talking with a few parents I know, whose kids were recruited in different sports. The reason they choose the schools they attend (not ND) was:
1) Every few years the team would take one big trip (usually out of country or across the country for tournament or a single game)
2) the schools were innovative, with forward thinking programs.
Everyone complains about not getting the big recruits (5 stars), but if ND doesn't move to where the market is, it will miss out. I'm sure the college of business would agree with moving your product to where the market conditions are most favorable.
