A lot of hand wringing online about the loss of a third team safety, meanwhile the defensive line which is short on usable bodies inside, loses someone they really needed. Very not good.

whether "cleared to play" next year or not.

I used to watch the big guys at practice everyday and thought "jesus, that looks fucking miserable."

Of the incoming fresh, I think both Gibbons and Banks have the frame, and played both sides of the line in HS.
25+ years ago, most players would simply have gone out and played, especially since we didn't know nearly as much back then as we do today, when it comes to concussions. I'd rather he take things as carefully as possible and not play, than to risk it.
Having had three of them means that there's more than a fair chance that he has accumulated significant damage.

Let's hope Darnell Ewell is as good as advertised.
He has to be Isaac Rochelle/Sheldon Day type dependable.
There have been reports Ewell just isn't there right now, and actually Hinish has looked better.
I'm optimistic about this season, but I can't think of a good team Notre Dame has had in my lifetime where the defensive line was a weakness and it looks like it might be or even will likely be.
Jay and Daelin Hayes are both very talented, and luckily Jay is finally playing the correct position (strong-side end). With Trumbetti, Okwara, and Kareem as backups, I think the DE situations is pretty good for a change.
The DT situation is downright scary. Tillery is the only legit starter. Bonner should be a rotational guy. Elijah Taylor and Daniel Cage were both desparately needed and are both out. Maybe Taylor gets healthy later in the year?
One guy who is never talked about who I'm really interested in is Julian Okwara. He's almost as good a prospect as D Hayes, if not his equal.
That being said, it's hard to hide being weak up the middle.
