How are offers reported and confirmed by the likes of Scout and Rivals? Every once in a while I see a 3 star kid with some "ok" offers and there listed with those offers are a school or two like Alabama, Ohio State or USC. What is to stop a prospect from embellishing on who has actually offered him?
name a few in the Atlanta paper. I hadn't noticed the name anytime prior in the recruiting process so I started looking at all offers, interest in and so on. Then I decided on a hunch to email the so called writer with a bluff about watching for ND talent in the SE. They guy wrote back and admitted " no he wasn't offered by ND but it makes the kid look better!" What a BS-ing idiot, #1 for writing it and second for admitting it......
Plus, every kid who announces an offer will be getting calls from Irish Illustrated, ISD, BGI, South Bend Tribune, 247, etc. for an interview. If they are lying, they'll have to make up a story, then hope the school doesn't send a note to those sites saying it's inaccurate.
Thanks. After I read your post - it reminded me of a very sensational story a few years back where a kid went down a path of fake offers and even had a big scholarship signing announcement at his school etc. It was exposed as all fake.
