He was a showman who knew how to play the writers. Where do you think that four horseman stuff

But he also did lots of things which would be considered illegal today. Like hiring his favorite sportswriters as refs (with the understanding they would give him a crucial call now and then.

One of the best books written of any genre.....
The author chronicles how unis took on massive debt starting in the late 20s to build giant stadiums. That financial burden heavily impacted unis during the Depression, forcing a win at all costs mentality within athletic departments. Sure sounds familiar....
