It's because even he knows that the Irish have no short yardage power running game in one possession games at crunch time (think multiple times vs Ga), He chose to let BW (whose touch, accuracy and consistency are questionable at best) throw a swing pass to and equally inconsistent tight end rather than lining up and running right at the Navy's undersized DL or letting BW try to do it with his feet.
Until the Irish can grind the clock in the closing minutes of one possession games they will continue to lose more than their share of them. We are playing a team next week that can do so and I hope we don't have to pay again for this huge weakness in BK's offensive scheme not to mention his irrational play calling in the closing minutes of games.

Why does Kelly motion to the field on second and short? He sucks. Gotta go.

Great leaders find a way to put their people in position to be successful. Kelly has not done that with Wimbush this year. Miami and Navy were begging for ND to ignore the run and chuck it. ND played right into the hands of both opponents. I expect the same next week.
Apparently Navy's game plan didn't work.
Miami was another story.
They were just unable to accept the gift BK gave them and close the deal

Also, I'm pretty sure no defense has every had a game plan that says, "We want them to score on 57% of their possessions."
its possessions even more. Run that damn ball.
That's with Navy putting 7 and 8 in the box the majority of the game.
I was being sarcastic. The idea that ND should trade long, time-consuming drives with Navy seems like madness. (The mismatch in Saturday's game was ND's offense against Navy's defense. The Navy coach knew it. The ND defense cooperated. That's why Navy had a chance. The ND offense did not cooperate, as you suggested. That's why ND won.)
they stacked the box forcing ND to throw the ball. we couldn't run.
It was only a matter of time before BK got overly involved in play calling, to ND's detriment.
The defensive alignment smacked of too much BK as well, imo. I could be wrong, maybe Elko prefers the 3-4 against option teams, but he's a 4-3 guy. Why would he go to a 3-4 (BK's preference) against an option team? Navy helped out here by running to the outside a lot. The play calling was more aggressive than the past few years thank god. Another year of the same 3-4 alignment and having the lads play back and let Navy dictate the play would've thrown me over the edge.
Yup...
