What about Stoops? He's 57, had some time away from the game and he's always entertained coaching at Notre Dame.

He would be a perfect fit.

I sort of wondered because he bought 2 expensive houses next door to each other in Chicago recently.

Why would you buy houses there? I sort of wondered if he took this year off to watch his boys play HS football as seniors. I wondered if maybe he was waiting in the wings to take the ND job, and maybe already had contact with ND for when Kelly was let go.. I have mixed emotions. He wins a lot. He loses the really big game most of the time (NC). He had tons of criminal type players at ou, I am not sure if it could work out or not. He is Catholic. I also wonder if he is ok healthwise. It is interesting to think about.

Well ND ain't the cleanest program in CFL that's for sure.

Great. Is ND now willing to make the accommodations that he wanted and make the university...

more like an SEC-style football factory?

Me, I'd be satisfied with hanging onto some integrity, running the triple option and having that one season every 10-15 years where the program contends for a NC. But I'm funny that way.

Please say more about this position. Why not look to excel...within reason?

The Board of Trustees will never give any head coach total control over the program.

That is why we will never have someone like Saban, Meyer, or Stoops (or at least Bob) coaching here. Those guys demanded it, and their institutions gave it.
