I'm guessing Bars is gone, and Mustipher might have a tough decision to make.

If we have a scholie crunch, we've got plenty of OL. While it is always nice to have an experienced OL guy around, guards usually aren't a problem. We apparently have 3 starting level tackles back. Flip one to guard.
The point is having the best 85. If Bars is one of those, fine. If not, he's got his degree.
He started every game for a team that rushed for 3,300+ yards. Even if he struggled some, you don't just say thanks for the effort.
They can bring back the entire right side plus Mustipher and continuity matters on the offensive line. In the event he was to lose his job to someone else, he'd be the next best option off the bench. If he's willing, you do it every time.
and who the 5th OL will be.
On one of the other boards, it has been reported that Banks is too good to sit and will start somewhere next year. Everybody has forgot about him since he has re-shirted. If this is true, somebody very good and experienced is going to sit out and I don't think it will be Bars.
They have two options:
First, move Kraemer to left guard and keep the right side intact with Mustipher, Bars, and Hainsey.
Or move Bars to left guard, Kraemer to right guard with Hainsey at right tackle.
As for left tackle, I think Eichenberg and Josh Lugg compete for the spot. There has been talk from the beat guys about how the good coaches think Josh Lugg is. They use words like "star". So we'll see on that.

spring practices rarely have full two deeps at most positions particularly the lines.

Between guys having surgery or taking it easy after a long season particularly in the lines, there are comments every year about not having enough players in the spring.
Like I said, Bars will get a 5th year if he makes the team better in the fall. Nobody gives a shit if he just fills out the spring practice squad.
And why the heck would a guy stick around in the spring if he wasn't going to be on the team in the fall?

I never said that 10 for 2018 was enough. I simply questioned if Bars was valuable enough to get a 5th year.
See if you can follow along and then you are free to invent whatever you think I said.
We currently have 16 OL on the roster.
We are losing 2 for sure (Nelson and McGlinchey).
We have two verbals at this point. We'll probably get another.
That would be 17 with 3 potentially 5th years in that mix. So, if none of those three came back, we would have no less that 14. I'm not quite sure where you invented the 10 number from.
I don't know how the 3 potential 5th years are viewed nor do I know the position strengths of the other 14. Chances are between Bush, Bars and Byrne, at least one of them won't get a 5th likely 2 of them. So the question is which of the 3 is the most important.
Since guard is the least difficult position in the line to be good at, it is logical that a guy who plays guard might not be in the position of getting a 5th year.
Simple question which apparently is a bit too complex for you.
Mustipher
Bars
Byrne
Ruhland
Kraemer
Eichenberg
Lugg
Gibbons
Hainsey
Banks
Mabry
Dirksen
That's 12. Assuming Byrne is done because he's never played makes 11. Sorry if this is getting tricky but minus Bars makes 10.
I have no concern about depth in the spring. As I said, depth in the spring in most years has been a challenge. So if you want to say I said 10 in spring, you're inventing an argument I didn't make. You're the one who apparently has fainting spells over spring depth.
The point is the numbers in fall 2018 will approximate the numbers in fall 2017.
Bars isn't going to get a 5th year just to fill out a two deep. Either he is viewed as a starter or he is gone. Based on current verbals, there appears to be a number crunch. There are some obvious folks that be on the way out to ease that but depending on who they actually sign, they might have to make difficult decisions.
I'll try to be more direct next time...geez.
