that could change by the time the season starts and if he does not correct his problems he could lose the job. If that happens, the 2018 team will not reach its potential.

Keeping younger, more talented guys on the bench.
i.e., Joe Schmidt/ Nyles Morgan

Book completed passes at a far higher rate than Wimbush. Book averaged the same yards per carry as Wimbush. Yet he didn't get a chance to play more. Why? Because Wimbush is the guy Kelly wants. Wimbush completes practice passes. Wimbush runs fast. Book threw some interceptions. Half in his first ever start and extended playing time. But he was better at the end of the season than he was at the beginning. Can't say that for Wimbush.
Dexter could have helped out tremendously versus Georgia last season yet he sat the bench. He averaged more yards per carry than Adams. That in itself should warrant more playing time. Kelly just wasn't having it because Josh was his guy.
Kelly's problem is making the decisions on gameday that lead to wins. He rode Wimbush way too long last year because he practiced well. It was obvious to the entire country that he wasn't a threat to beat anyone passing the ball and Kelly ignored it until it was too late. Settled for the Citrus Bowl after falling apart in November. Again!!
Kelly plays HIS guys at any cost. Kelly doesn't play the BEST guys.
after 2 games defenses will figure you out if you're just average like those two.

...though he is a nice back up. Thus far, Wimbush's problems are supratentorial. If he can get his head together, he is going to be a beast of a QB. He will never get their if he is not the guy taking the first snaps during the Spring and the Fall. Book can't get there at all due to physical limitations.
be QB if it is Winbush he better be improved as a passer. Strong arms means less than throwing catchable balls in stride. Joe Montana did not have a strong arm but he might have had the greatest touch ever on the short passes.

Book is lower tier.
No comparison, Wimbush takes the ribbon...buuuuttt...football games are won with successful results, and that’s not always the guy with the most athletic ability.
I’d love for Wimbush to win the job based on superior results, because that would be the surest way to team success. By any measure he has not yet achieved it. Book has gotten better results and I believe Coach Kelly will have a quick hook if Wimbush’ production mirrors last year. ND can not waste another year waiting for a talented QB to find himself.
Book completes passes at a higher rate and ended the season with the same ypc as Wimbush.
These things have actually happened versus things that you think could happen.
No one has said Book is top tier but he has proven to be a better QB, not runner but QB, than Wimbush.
was thrown well and it was catchable. His completion percentage that game was over 70% in one half.
Why is this being ignored on this board?

No kidding!

thrown with too much on it but with great touch and therefore was catchable.

he will be a quarterback no team in the country will want to face. By the way, I didn't interpret from that article that there was no competition, but only that Book and Avery were behind BW.
the better overall athlete. Every program needs a top-notch backup QB when #1 struggles and Book has shown he’s The Guy. I only hope BW has his head right.
If the expectation is that Book will come in when needed and snatch victory from the results of BW poor performance, well that is totally unreasonable.
ND needs to find a winning combination out of the box, but if your expectation is that the substitute will be the goat if he fails to bring ND back, that would not be a ticket to a championship contender team, nor fair to the player.
You can't fully evaluate quarterbacks if they aren't getting hit.
Wimbush will walk out there versus Michigan as the starter based on what he did in practice against a defense he sees everyday. I remember last year everyone said he looked like a champ in practice. Practice stats don’t matter.
Kelly wants Wimbush as the starter and will force it. He did it last year and he’ll do it this year. Who cares about real stats anyways? As long as you can run fast, jump high and throw hard.

This has resulted in Book pressing and making lots of mistakes trying to throw into spots that his arm won't allow him to
Book is very limited. Also, Book will not transfer if he doesn’t start out at #1.
next year is a possibility if the 3rd string QB jumps him.
Wimbush ypc = 5.7
Book ypc = 5.4
Wimbush completion % = 49.5
Book completion % = 61.3
Here is the real evidence.

Dependable and good enough to run the system competently, but not quite the skills to be the starter. Wont transfer so he can be relied on for for three years.

But there were others too that thought Zaire was better than Kizer.
