There were two glaring issues that made a bigger difference than having Coach Moore working with that line.
QB: Brandon Wimbush and his case of the yips... When you can't even complete a 5 yard toss to a wide open receiver, then the offense becomes one dimensional. The fact that we either couldn't or wouldn't run a simple QB sneak on 3rd / 4th and 1 to pick up an easy half yard also makes one wonder...
Play calling: Why not run that QB sneak, as mentioned above? Was Brandon Wimbush's hand so badly damaged that we couldn't risk it?
The line gave the skill players plenty of time and openings, and wasn't to blame for last year's losses. Georgia would have been easily winnable, had we completed just a few more easy passes, as would the Stanford game.
The Joe Moore foundation selected them as the best offensive line in the country.

judging by how much money they are making now.
The way chub cruised around McGlinchy in that Georgia game, Miami abused that o-line, this wouldn`t happen on JM`s watch. I know times have changed, but as talented as these kids are today, they still lack that toughness, Go back to that 1993 ND line of Taylor, Ruddy, Knapp, etc., They look like bartenders with 30 inch biceps. Those boys could move people around, and would occasionally spit in their face in the aftermath.

And thus you claim the entire OL were not tough? Give me a freaking break.
no it is not, they spit the bit against Georgia big-time...McGlinchy got beat on speed rushes and the line did not move Georgia off the ball..that is fact...the pros have already moved McGlinchy to right tackle...lack of foot speed at left tackle.

I`m talking about overall toughness, accountability, wanting to knock someone on their ass and then spit in their face when they`re down. If I remember correctly, a lot of you guys thought McGlinchy and in some cases the whole OL was overrated and not from just one block/game; but multiple games. I`m not putting it on the kids, they`re very talented. It starts with Brian Kelly attitude, accountability, intensity, drive, motivation and taking pride on 4th and 1 and goal line situations. Having an attitude would trickle down to the other coach`s..
When these guys get their asses kicked, there never seems to be any accountability or responsibility some of them are pampered. When Holtz was HC, and the guys whiffed, you`d see him in Joe Moore`s face and a near fist fight would break out on the sidelines between the two! Those teams were motivated and it started with the OL. I think McGlinchy is good, although I think Aaron Taylor would kick his ass nine ways of Sunday. I know times have changed and Joe Moore and Holtz would probably be facing lawsuits if they pulled the shit they did back then on those players; i,e face mask pulling, spitting in faces, yelling, etc., But the motivation and intensity is certainly lacking at ND these days.

I met Aaron Taylor once through a player who played High School football with him at De-La salle in Concord Ca. He played at the University of Utah, where I attended. That same year, I went to the BYU VS ND game in 92 and I met Aaron, along with Jeremy Akers; outside the stadium after the game. No big deal, I just wanted to share with him my meeting the football player from the U. I don`t know him personally if that`s what your asking? But I did intro myself. He was very big, looked very intimidating, looked like Zorich at the time, but one hell of a nice kid and very smart.I do believe he was then and still is as tough as they come!
Look, the one only reason I made this post, was that I was looking at all of the talent ND is attracting for the 2019 team, and then I thought of the offensive line. Like most, I`m a fan of Holtz and I especially liked Joe Moore, I was thinking of him, which intrigued me to make this post. I understand times have changed, the schematics and strategy for blocking is night and day. But they still trap, scoop, base, pass and zone block; not to mention arch, counter and sweep and veer releases. Nothing`s changed in that facet. ND`s offensive attack back then took on the mentality of a Bull Dozer. Their offensive line would tear through teams to the tune of 300 yards a game on the ground; but in order for them to be successful, it all started with the o-line. Thus, they had to have been instilled with a level of toughness both physically and mentally in order for them to blast through 300 plus pounders for 80 yards in 10 plays in 7 plus minutes. That all started with the coaching and accountability.
These ND teams today are very talented, smart, and more athletic, but they are pampered too much. They`re too soft. They`re the kind of guys that will knock you on your ass, then help you up. That`s one of the reasons they fall apart every November. If you want to bet, I`m betting come November, you`ll be the first in line to start bagging on the coaching and shouting for a change, if/when they fall apart.
The Holtz offense was to just grind it out. The Kelly offense requires a lot more from everyone so they don't have the time just to focus on run blocking
I still didn't see the toughness of the OL lines that Holtz/Moore lines possessed..3rd, or 4th and 1, is still an adventure, it wasn't an adventure with Holtz/Moore lines...those dudes moved people..

All great coaches and players have a day off now and then. Joe was no exception. Watched both him and Harry in practices. Both were pile-drivers and tremendous teachers who could recruit (Joe by just being there) and motivate studs.
The closing drive, I recall 80 yards, was all on the ground to close out the no. 1 ranked undefeated Buffs..Last year's OL could never do that..
very conscious of the Rocket, Watters, Brooks and the option which Holtz's teams ran to perfection.
were worlds better..Plus, in addition to all, those wide threats, ND had Anthony Johnson waiting to break one up the middle..I went to the 28-24 barnburner over USC that yr; Anthony Johnson was amazing and a huge reason for that comeback win..
