I would never question Phil Steele, but ranking a schedule based on opponents' previous year's performance has its flaws.

ND plays, for example, Michigan and Florida State. That counts for the same as playing against Wake Forest and Temple.

We have 4 marquee matchups with Mich, USC, Stanford, FSU. All top 10 caliber teams (at least talent wise), and most of our so called “lesser” opponents like VT, Pitt, Northwestern can upset anyone any weekend. Then u still have that crazy option team in Navy thrown in. Then add in all the night games, giving away a home game, and add the travel miles and I would definitely trade this schedule with many teams across the country.
Lil ol Wake Forest could possibly be the best offense we face this year too.
We have a couple “gimmies” this year and schedule layout is horrible as usual lately.
Championships are usually scheduled, and not generally won by playing a boatload of top ten teams every year.
This is just one of many articles I found that gives ND tons of credit for our schedule this year.
