Michigan's starting CB's are 5'10" and 6'0"; their starting safeties are 5'11" and 6'0". These guys all played last year and are no doubt very good athletes. Is that enough to offset our height advantage? How will they be able to cover our two TE formations where we can put four receivers who are 6'4" to 6'5" on the field at the same time? Additionally, I think their LB's will have a very difficult time covering any of our slot receivers. Of course this can be neutralized by overwhelming D-line play and a lot of creative blitz packages, but I think our O line is going to prove up to the challenge. Brandon Wimbush can also make them pay big time for blitzing with his legs.
I'd be interested in your thoughts on how Michigan can offset our height/reach advantage. Thanks.
Keep the ball up and let them use their size...Could really help his confidence to make those completions. This year could resemble 2005 with two tall targets like Jeff S and Stovall. Hopefully the Alize we've been waiting for shows up and Wimbush has a lot of big targets to hit.
Last year, there were very few routes/throws between the hash marks when Wimbush was in the game. And it looked to me like he was only asked to read one side of the field on any given play. If He can use more of the field, then I think ND can exploit their size advantage. If not, it is easier to defend, with coverage both underneath and over the top.
very solid season.
