I think it is time for all, especially the coaching staff, to think of his future after ND. I assume that he wants to play in the NFL. He will never be drafted as a QB based on his previous performance and I believe that he will not improve much at this position in the future.
It is time to find him another position on this team, perhaps slot/possession receiver. It is also time to get Ian Book and Phil Jurkovec playing time. Maybe Phil plays in only four games, perhaps more, a coaching staff decision.
Does anyone really want to see us in the final four based on current performance? Is there anyone who believes that we could beat Alabama or Ohio State? Do we really want to go through another embarrassment like the last time we played Alabama in an NC game?
I like Brandon a lot and think he represents ND well, especially with a recent past with other players concerning drugs and a gun. It is time to think of his future and the future of this football team.
.
I’m not saying he can’t get the job done at ND as QB. Right now he is the best option they have. I don’t think Wimbush is in the same league as Braxton Miller or Terrell Pryor and neither of them has really set the NFL on fire, although Pryor at 6’4” and sub 4.40 time he has been serviceable as a receiver.
to win games at ND, not develop NFL players, Brandon Wimbush is his best QB right now..You may lose the team if you make that move now..Thats a move you make in spring practice...

It has struggled all season. Especially second half of games.
It def doesn’t beat any of the top 3 teams in the country. If the goal is to win a championship then you do what has to be done even if you are 3-0.
Agree.... Hope Williams can provide some much needed pop.
If there's someone who can run the offense better than Brandon Wimbush can, then Brian Kelly should make the change.
Once the opposing defense start stacking the box with 8, and daring him to throw an accurate pass, it may be time to make such a change if Wimbush still can't make consistently good short and medium range throws.
I have no problem if Brian Kelly yanks Wimbush with ND trailing in a game,as Saban did
I think pigaletto is right. Wimbush is just not a very good quarterback. The opposing teams have figured that out. He has had too much time at ND to figure out how to pass effectively. IMO if he hasn't learned by now, he never will. It's time for a change before it is too late. We need a QB that knows how to throw so that defenses don't stack the box again and again. I also think he might make a very good slot receiver or running back.

Wimbush is a runner with little to no threat of beating a team through the air. His running will work against a lot of inferior teams. His running, however, will not beat Alabama, Clemson, Georgia or Ohio State. Last season is the perfect example. A one dimensional team lost to the teams that mattered to stay in the playoff hunt. The offense must be balanced.
That being said, since Kelly has decided that Wimbush is "The Guy" regardless, the play calling has not been consistently in Wimbush's favor.

Only in your rosiest of rose colored glasses could you even whisper Wimbush's name with Miller or Barnett. He is neither as good a runner and nowhere near as effective a passer. Wimbush would running the scout team at OSU.

Braxton Miller got better each season. His junior year he completed 63.5% of his passes for 24 TDs.
JT Barrett is a career 63.5% passer with 104 TD passes.
Wimbush isn't in the same league.

Wimbush had the chances all year last year to throw short, medium and long passes. He completed those passes less than 50% of the time.
This year has been different. The play calling is inconsistent.
You have a very weak argument for BW as an accurate passer. Even practice footage shows him missing easy targets.
Strengths. He’s being asked to make a lot of touch throws when all he knows how to do is throw the ball hard and down field. He’s most accurate when he can just let it fly.

instances, fans wanted both replaced with better passers. Go look at Tebow's passing stats; nearly a 70% completion rate. It's the system as much as the QB. You have to go back and watch the passes those three were asked to make on a regular basis versus BW. Hey, I've said all along the guy is not right for Kelly's system, but he'd be lights out in a run first spread attack.
You can't be a good QB at the major college level when you can only throw go routes.
Tebow's Florida and the Ohio St teams were much better than this ND team but it's more than obvious that Wimbush is not a good passer. Being able to throw the ball 60 yards down the field accurately doesn't make an accurate QB.
under Kelly who has completed passes anywhere close to those of Meyer.

Frankly, we don't know how Wimbush would do under similar circumstances. As it is though, we have what we have.
Wimbush, however, has had opportunities to complete passes. Bad play calling aside, BW is still no where near those two guys.

and on the money. Last year he had shown little on this. Also he has hit some crossing routes. Where he gets into trouble is when he commits to a throw that is not there.
