..it is impossible to have an existent running game, when you call pass plays on every down.
The stats show that ND had more running plays than passing ones. If you look at the games since the beginning of the season, you will see a quite balanced offense that relies a little more on the run game. It's the same story if you look at the last games where Book is the starter. Long is not pass happy and tends to rely on the run in order to set up the pass.

Go back and count how many times Book dropped back to pass but then tucked it to run because nothing was there...those are designed pass plays that show up in the stats as a run, but that is completely misleading.
First two drives of the game accounted for 8 designed pass plays (with an INT) and only 2 designed run plays.
It's not blown out of proportion, it's actually glossed over way too much..
As mentioned on another thread...our O-Line's recent play is very concerning.
They love the rush and always want more. Talk to any O-Line guy and he'll tell you there is nothing more fun than dominating the line of scrimmage in an end-to-end drive.
I think it's a use or lose it thing.
