That concerns me with Michigan and tOSU on the outside looking in. Would rather not see a Big 10 crew!
Unless the room is filled with hypocrites...
then in ranking between ND and Michigan I would assume the "comparable" criteria of the Playoff Selection Committee Protocol would apply:
2. Principles. The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:
Conference championships won,
Strength of schedule,
Head-to-head competition,
Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and,
Other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team's performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
Assuming neither team has a "key" injury before final selection, then Michigan has a championship and ND has head-to-head. So strength of schedule and common opponents could decide it. Well, there will be a common opponent, played at that opponent. The hypothetical one ND loss better not be to NW and I suggest that Brian Kelly put his 1-point-win-is-good-enough spiel aside come Saturday.

Assuming only one of ND and Michigan will be included.

If ND beats NW and NW finds it's way into the Big 10 title game (a distinct possibility), there is no way the committee can pick the winner of a Michigan/NW conference title game over a a one loss ND team (depending on the nature of the ND loss ) that beat both of them and maintain a shred of credibility.
I really don't think it will come down to that as they will find another way to overcome such quandary, i.e. perhaps a 1 loss Oklahoma.
From the NCAA that hands down one negative decision after another to ND without a whisper of dissent outside of ND and its fans? "If ND doesn't like it, join a conference" would be the refrain.
If somehow NW got to and won the B10 title game, NW would be at best a 3-loss team, with a loss to Akron. It's not comparable to a 1-loss ND team, even if that 1 loss is to NW. But, in any case, we're assuming Michigan goes undefeated until and then wins the B10 title game.
It's always the last impression that counts most. If we stumble and Michigan sweeps... they would jump us.

ND’s loss at this point will come against an unranked team towards the end of the season. I expect Michigan would jump ND in that scenario.

Their next two are against Wake Forest and Louisville. They are #22 now.
THis is where the soft schedule starts to come into play
Of course let's see what the CFP Committee has to say tomorrow night....who knows where they will have us.
Since the West is so weak.
Osu will drop badly with another loss
Moreso than on ND beating say a Syracuse after losing to Northwestern, for example.
ND does not have significant enough quality wins left on its schedule to recover from a loss now. It ain't rocket science...

Was merely addressing the situation where both have one loss. Your hypothetical.

Not saying it is right or anything. But a one-loss UM that beats OSU and wins the Big 10 would get in over a one-loss ND. I don't think there is much question about it. I sincerely doubt UM will finish with only one loss, though.
