Any idea why he's seen so little run over the past few weeks? He hasn't had a single carry since he had 1 carry in the Va Tech game. I would have thought he'd get a bit more run than that, especially with Armstrong out.
If we had last year's offensive line, I'd guarantee you that we'd be seeing a lot more of Avery Davis. He's too good of an athlete to be sitting on the sidelines in that kind of situation.
With the offensive line being less than ideal this year though, it's even more important that the running backs be able to do a decent job of pass protection.
Against a blitzing team, pass protection becomes critical, and if the RB can't pass block adequately, then it makes no sense to keep him in.
While some folks may say "Well, keep him in there for running plays, and he'll be fine," they also need to remember that the moment that the offense becomes one-dimensional (running only), it also becomes easier to stop.
. . . for a RB. And there isn’t any reason for any RB not to learn how to do it. It’s like BB players who won’t work on free throws or learn to box out — it isn’t an obvious problem until it costs you. And pass protection isn’t important until your QB gets crushed.
yea lets keep one of our most explosive players back in the pocket trying to block a 240lb sprinting LB...
Guess what you COULD do... throw him the ball where the LB was...wowwwww
You think the Patriots drafted Sony Mitchell block...
Top notch coaches aren't using good RBs like that...

I'd like to see him move back to QB next year or slot WR.

I believe the blown pass protection assignment against Pitt that has kept him 4th on the depth chart.

And don't miss the BIG picture. If our running game prevails, then we can eak out a W. Wimbush is just eons slower than Book. Book never stops to think. It's all automatic to him. And I assume that those opposing Jurkovic see him sitting the bench when we need scores to win and running just ain't gonna get it?
I was just adding a possible reason why we haven''t seen too much of Avery Davis lately.
