I hate enforced, petty displays of so-called patriotism.
...but no doubt they captured and broadcast their grievances on social media.

Oh well, like Kaerpernick and his commie girl friend brainwasher, the more entitled among us probably are the dumbest. Hope they wore their socks depicting police officers as pigs and celebrate every time the officers are murdered by criminals.
no need for distractions
The Sisters. Of St. Joseph would’ve grabbed them by their ears and had them on their feet most Ricky tick.

More pathetic media attempts to grab your attention over nothing.
People seem to forget that this country was created out of protest.
If you like your national kneel down Football League, you can keep your national kneel down Football League...

Besides sitting during the national anthem what else are they doing to help their "cause"? Probably not a damn thing.
This is only driving blacks & whites further apart.

If a bunch of students want to look like politically correct idiots, and being used as pawns for politically correct causes, then let them make their own choices, as long as they are within the laws of the land and the du Lac policies.
That being said, it's common courtesy to stand for the National Anthem, and pay your respects for those who have died for this country, and not to use it for your own politically correct platform.
Protest on your own time, at a different event. Don't screw up the atmosphere for the tens of thousands of fans who paid good money to see that game.
Unless they've changed the rules (not likely) du Lac specifically states that students are not allowed to create a disruption to a Notre Dame social or academic environment, and taking a knee at the game could technically be seen as creating such a disruption.
While I find it unlikely that the folks at Student Affairs would take any significant action against students who engage in such childish behavior, keep in mind, that if they're aiming to smack down a particular student that they may not like, then it's probably not a sound idea to give them any ammo with which they could shoot you. 50 hour community service sentences, etc., could easily be handed down at a whim.
First, and foremost, I don't support Student Affairs weaponizing such things. It's a petty move on their part, and to waste time engaging in such petty garbage reflects badly on the Golden Dome.
Still, you never know what the folks at Student Affairs may want to do. Maybe someone's looking to win a few brownie points with the folks higher up. Maybe that someone is looking to make a name for himself, or perhaps become the next Patty O'Hara... Is it really worth getting in trouble over a silly protest that could be carried out elsewhere?
Enjoy your lives as ND students. It's a blast of a time, and you're afforded an opportunity to study at the premier Catholic school in the world (my opinion, of course). Don't jeopardize that privilege.

Or were you talking about something other than football?

What do you expect? Won't even let the US Catholic Bishops Conference discuss the problem. Venezuela if 95% Catholic and being starved to death. But our Jesuit Pope (Liberation Theology) won't speak out against Maduro's socialist government. He's more worried about climate change. So players sitting is the least of our problems.
Maybe the students should support the victims of abuse by the clergy. I'm sure the higher ups would welcome that.
Sorry for the venting.

Seriously. You cannot fucking spelI "pedophile" but think those of us here to talk football should give a ratfuck for your opinion on the condition of Catholicism? And for the record I agree with your view on this Pope. But this board is supposed to be a haven from this bs.
I was making a point about how society decides what is the cause celebre. I'll get back to football now

I am a Navy Vet of 21 years. I think there is a time and place for everything.
Personally I will stand at parade rest and bow my head like I have always done even before I joined the Navy.
So far from what I have seen when its either athletes or people in the stands during the National Anthem the protests have been peaceful, that is a plus.

I just read it. Thank you.
I think its awesome. Good for them. Things need to change and these people are trying to bring about that change.
