Link: Brian Kelly Proved Doubters, Including Me, Very Wrong
While I don't like Kelly, I respect the changes he's made to the program. Also, there isn't anyone that ND could get that would be better, so the haters need to accept that fact until he decides to leave.

Talk to me after the playoffs are over...if he doesn't interview with the NFL during bowl prep or field a completely unprepared team ala Miami just last year, then we can discuss what he has proven..
Please, the fact that he turned things around from 4-8 is pretty remarkable and people still not giving him any credit for it is exactly what I was talking about in the article.
By turning things around from 4-8 he did already proved everyone wrong b/c everyone wanted him fired and didn't think he would do what was needed to turn things around.
had during that 21-3 stretch.
Sorry but he didn't come here to prove he can turn around 4-8 shit shows THAT HE CREATED in year number 9...he came here to win championships which he still hasn't proven he can do...maybe he'll make me eat crow this year, that would be GREAT!! but I'm not holding my breath on that, because he hasn't proven I should yet.
And Spoiler Alert, he still shoulda been fired after the 4-8 season and NOTHING he has done to this point has proven otherwise. He's currently working on his 4th acceptable season out of 9 (if you don't take away the vacated season)...that is not an elite pace and baring a NC win, he would need to run off 5-6 straight 10+ win seasons to be back on Pace with the elite and PROVE that he was justified in keeping his job.
Suppose we had hired a new coach prior to 2017 and our results would be the exact same with everything. You would be singing this guy's praises.
This is basically what we got. Kelly reinvented himself and in effect we did get a new coach.
His biggest mistake may have been hiring BVG. What a waste of talent the 2015 team had, especially on defense. Reminds me of all the talent Rick Minter helped squander from the 1992 & 93 teams. Or even worse Gary Darnell did with the 1990 & 91 squads.
I called it in February 2017:
"Looking back at 2016, Notre Dame played absolutely abysmal football - and yet all but one loss was by no more than one score. Had this team had any kind of competency (mainly coaching but also from inexperienced players), it could easily have been 11-0 heading into the USC game.
Taking the scheduling and injuries out of the equation for the moment, the 2017 should be vastly improved. I previously thought Kelly had reached is ceiling as a coach, but the fact that he's willing to bring so many new voices to the team is a great sign. I would go so far to say that if I'm right about that, this team has the potential to run the table. Not likely, but as we sit here in February I think it's a legitimate possibility.
So for all you Negative Nellies who say the culture of ND won't allow them to be great anymore, or that we can't get the necessary recruits, or that we don't have the facilities, coaches, etc., I say you're wrong. I think 2017 will be the start of a great era of ND football."
Kelly has proved a lot of people wrong. And now a bunch of people who wanted him fired and picked ND to win 8 this season are dragging their feet until he “proves” more. 11-0 and 21-3. He hasn’t proved he’s Saban. But he’s proved a lot of us wrong. Me included.
He isn't Saban and never will be because there probably won't be another Saban. He's now won 10 or more games in 3 of 4 seasons and is on the verge of his second 12-0 regular season. Considering the 13 years before him, that's pretty damn good. And I honestly never thought he'd reach these heights after 4-8. I was fully on board with giving him the boot and starting over two years ago.
The schedule the next few years looks BRUTAL some years but with the class of 2018 and the class of 2019 lined up, Kelly has Notre Dame in a place where continued success finally looks like it's arrived. It took longer than anyone wanted and it included that 2016 debacle, but I think it's finally here.
that is wrong. You are a whiny bitch
Brian Kelly hasn't proved shit yet...bitch!
If we lose to USC and lose our bowl it's just another kelly-esc finish...if we beat USC and he runs off to interview with the NFL while he should be prepping us for the playoff, then he's still the same piece of shit he was in 2012...we get in the playoff and get waxed 48-3 and it's just a typical unprepared Kelly big game performance.
He wins us a NC, I'll line up and beg yall to feed me crow...but getting to the doorstep and falling flat in year 9, when all other ND coaches were only given 5 years Max doesn't prove a damn thing. You can't deal with that "reality" then fuck off, don't read my posts, block me, whatever, I don't give a shit!!
...his teams have shat the bed at the most inopportune times, and are unprepared by his own admission. TCOB on Saturday, and play well, win or lose, in the playoffs, and then he'll have fully flipped the script

Kelly has achieved some very good things this year. Very proud of this team and hope this means he has straightened some things out.
This does not “prove people wrong” about his past errors...and there is still more to be done to redeem his overall body of work here
It appears he has taken positive steps. Hopefully this takes hold and is his new mode of operation. Time will tell...but more time is necessary.
I salute what he has done thus far in 2018.
The guy is admitting he was wrong in saying that Kelly could not turn it around after 7 years. He never absolved him from past sins.
as he really hasn't proven anything yet. In 2014 it seemed he had things back on track, then the bottom fell out....in both 2015 and 2017 we faltered down the stretch and only a catch of the century against LSU kept us from losing 3 of our last 4 last season.
The endings of '15 and '17 coupled with how atrocious '16 was, is too recent and relevant a 3 year stretch to just take for granted everything is all good now based on one good season that we don't even know how it ends yet. Especially considering that the tendencies that got Kelly in trouble in the past have popped their heads up momentarily at numerous times even this season.
I’ve kind of seen Kelly as an 8-4 forever coach at ND. This year seems to be different. He seems to have found a way to be successful at ND with all of the advantages/disadvantages inherent in the job.
I’m not ready to recommend a bronze statute outside of the stadium yet, but he seems to have turned a corner.
It's not fair to sweep those concerns under the rug.
Did he change his ways? Yes, somewhat. Did he deserve to be criticized? Most certainly. I'll always talk about Tulsa as the perfect example of who Kelly is as a coach and with good reason, it was a stupid coaching job by someone who should know how to coach in a winning way. The problem for Kelly is that stupidity showed all too often. I'm talking Tommy Rees as QB and other decisions he's made.
Don't get me wrong, I've always said Kelly is more than capable, but he either gets in his own way ala Charlie Weiss - the smartest coach in the stadium ego - or doesn't know his own players and coaches. But something was not working and it wasn't lack of experience.
Now suddenly we're all supposed to say it never happened and he's proved us wrong? No way am I doing that. I will say, Finally Kelly you're showing up to the party and being the coach we thought you are and in a way, proving us right.
Your criticisms were justified. He had his head up his ass. He finally woke up.
Happy Thanksgiving all ... GO IRISH !!!

Anyone who inferred that it was Kizer’s decision is dim.
when it mattered. Yes, NC State was stupid but if Kizer had been half the QB so many thought he was, we still would have won.
I also believe against Tulsa that our kicker had either missed a short field goal or PAT which made the field goal not a sure thing. It was just poor execution by Rees on that play, his receiver or nobody gets that pass. I am sure he was told that.
All I said is that Frank’s article was clear, and a couple of people read something into it that wasn’t there.
