I see a lot of ND fans happy about this, but then I remember how happy ND fans were when Carroll was named HC there. FIsher's brand could work well at USC if he brings in an established OC and gets out of the way. Del Rio had success in the NFL too and I wouldn't completely write him off from being successful at USC.
Of the two I think I'd rather Fisher since he's already 60 and might not want to put in all of the work on the recruiting trail.
Fischer? Jimbo Fischer?

assuming college failure, thus celebrating when maybe they shouldn't be.
Truth is, you can't automatically assume success OR failure based on how good or bad a coach was in the NFL.

Carrol was extremely relatable to young kids and really had a west coast appeal to him.
He backed into the best OC in college football.
LA as a sports town was awful at the time. USC became the cities team. Which made them even more appetizing to recruits.
LA now has two NFL teams, one that is a legit super bowl contender as well as Lebron and the Lakers. As long as that continues, USC will continue to be the same old boring stadium and atmosphere.
UCLA with Kelly has the potential to be really good and create their own buzz. Which will keep USC from the insane recruiting classes they had under Carrol.
I know I'll get push back on this, but I'd be much more worried about Franklin taking the job. Back to back 11 wins seasons and looking like he could have a 10 win season this year. If you look at their recruiting, it's nothing insane like he will automatically get at USC.

That's like having Charlie Weis as your OC in college

They could get some real coaches that have proven they can run quality programs with a lot less talent in college. If they want to role the dice with someone like Fisher, whose Rams team completely blew up the moment he left with the same players, then please do. I'll take my chances on him being a Pete Carroll redux.
I think both would fail at the recruiting aspect.
