Long is an Alabama native, so some thought that Saban might tap him to be his new OC, now that Mike Locksley has become Maryland's HC. Luckily, Saban promoted his QB coach, Dan Enos, to be the new OC.
Let's hope that Long is grooming Ian Book with new concepts and plays during the long layoff: misdirection, go routes, gadget plays, creative 2 point plays that could decide a game, etc.

" Gadget plays " need some love, too!
Look how the " Philly Special " helped the Eagles win last year's Super Bowl and how " The Statue of Liberty " play won a bowl game for Boise State against a more talented Oklahoma team. It's always good to have one in your back pocket!
a different result. I have mostly been tough on Kelly when he believes somehow, through magic, things will change. We can all agree that at this point the defensive line for Clemson and Bama will overpower ND’s O line. So be stubborn and hope that Dex will break a long run and Book won’t be crushed. Or realize your weakness and make adjustments. We will see.
we are better equipped because of Book's ability to be accurate on short crossing routes and his ability to ball fake and make key runs. I am fairly confident. Georgia's defensive line and actually their whole defense was very fast last year. Clemson's defensive line is truly great this year but I think their overall defense is not as good as Georgia's was last year. We played with Georgia with Wimbush basically ineffective. I remember he had Adams wide open on a pass and missed, I think Book completes those passes to the backs and somehow we run a little more effectively than last year because of our ability to pass.
One thing we are forgetting is that our defense is a year better and now has a great leader and playmaker added in Gilman. They have "Sunshine" the QB who is probably better as a freshman than Fromm was but Fromm completed some unbelievably tough well covered passes last year. In conclusion I expect to win by 7.
While some may say settle in on D, keep everything in front let Sunshine make plays which he will, or go on attack right out of the gate. What’s better a quick strike down the field for a TD or a 10 play drive for a score. I’ll give up the quick strike.
On O, change up the play calls with all new slants, bubble screens, go long, or counter plays. Or do you start vanilla and maybe go three and out.
The decision will tell me that Kelly and staff won’t risk everything to advance. Just don’t know what he will do but based on his ND exeperience he will play safe. I wish he would use his Cincy approach.
they are doing the same thing. One thing not being spoken of is our very consistent defense. I think we will win by 7 but that is said from a Notre Dame love perspective. They have a great dline, ours is more than capable. They have athletes in the back 7 but we may actually have better defensive backs and linebackers. They have quick receivers, we have big receivers. They have a QB with a gun and cockiness, we have a QB with accuracy and cool. Their running backs are very explosive, two of ours are and one is a thumper. God I can't wait. No turnovers by us and again I think and hope we win by 7.
on. If they don't it could get ugly. ND has to make tweaks in its running game that clemson hasn't
seen on film. Don't be so damn predictable. ND hardly ever runs a draw and some misdirection
(as Irishize suggested) wouldn't hurt either. Any slow developing read option will get smothered.
see one of the incoming Freshman get a starting assignment next year.
Our running game has been stoned by a number of teams, e.g. Pitt. This would certainly figure to be the same against Clemson. The logical answer is to pass to set up the run. Northwestern stopped our running game in the first half; however, we adjusted by going to an uptempo passing game in the third quarter and turned the game around. Of course, we can't give up on the running game. Clemson might stuff Dexter ten straight times, but he might pop a 50 yarder on the eleventh try. The key is to be balanced, even if that means relying more on the passing game.
