offense was exposed last night by a good defense.our receivers are poor. claypool disappears Finke does ok but Boykin seem to take every other play off. saw multiple times this year him jogging on routes were the ball was just out of his reach.TE are avg at best. Offensive line is not very good. i wont bash Ian but he has reached his ceiling against good defenses. he cant stretch defenses which allows them to jump the short routes and take away quick reads. he is not a scary enough runner to keep them honest.
Plus , Ian cannot throw a good deep ball. I do not think he has the arm strength.
sense his frustration with the offense in general and Book in particular:
Right now #NotreDame is getting out-played at quarterback. Lawrence is making plays, Book is missing open receivers. Lawrence is handling pressure, Book is not. [5:38 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
I think Book needs to play better. They are going to be down at least 23-3 the next time they get the ball. They need to throw the ball. QB needs to play better, and the two drops haven't helped. [5:49 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Clemson has played sound football today, not making mistakes. Notre Dame has had personal fouls, dropped passes, a fumble, missing open receivers, blown coverage on the final TD drive. [5:50 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Even if ND was fully healthy on defense they'd be down right now because the offense just can't make plays right now. Opportunities have been there (open receivers, solid early runs) but not making enough plays at QB and two drops have crushed the offense. [5:54 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Leaving Alohi Gilman in one-on-one's against Ross and Higgins isn't putting him in good position to excel. Expected that to be corrected, but it hasn't been. [6:19 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Boykin had the corner beat on the post route, Book aimed the ball and threw off his back foot, ball floats, incomplete. Another missed opportunity. Instead of a TD ND ends up facing 3rd-and-long [6:29 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Book just unwilling to go through his progressions. Won't throw into tight windows. Can't take a sack there. Bad decision. Look for the check down or throw it over Claypool's head. [6:33 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Missed opportunity for the Notre Dame offense. Got into good range but a bad throw on a post, a false start and the QB not staying in the pocket stall the drive. [6:35 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Just cannot take a sack there. At lease the second or third time he's taken a sack in a bad moment. Throw it away! [6:51 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
Stared downfield. Had a WR underneath that was wiiiiiiide open. Could have caught the ball and ran for at least 10 yards. Just another awful, awful decision by Book. [6:52 PM - 29 Dec 2018]
This game is on the offense. Defense made two huge stops to start this half. Offense moved the ball twice and then choked when they got in Clemson territory. Could have had at least 10 points in those two drives. Just terrible, terrible execution on offense today. [6:54 PM - 29 Dec 2018]

It doesn't help that the QB has his limits and there is no short field speed anywhere or deception/counter action in the offense.
When most teams have a month to prepare you see new plays/new formations etc to try to look different because the team you are playing has a month to review the tape.
See anything new or novel on the offensive side of the ball?
Same-old, same-old shit from Kelly. He hasn't learned anything since 2012.
No quick passes...Book playing tentative..Bad pass to Boykins could have been a TD...3rd and 10 run...WTF...Claypool drop was a sign of bad things to come...3 points is an indictment.. beyond category....
plan. They at least scored one TD
plan. They at least scored a TD
And the lights too bright. Claypool dropped a pass that looked like catching a beach ball from 4 feet. And he dropped it. Multiple fumbles. It was bad.
A playoff game simply isn’t that different from the season opener against Michigan or many others they have played. It’s just not. Seems like they are almost trying to let it get into their heads. Or they are trying way to hard to not let it get to them.
