Link: Miles Boykin to NFL: Notre Dame Forced to Reshape Receiving Corps
Both tall receivers who don't have great short distance speed. So, in some ways, they duplicate what a TE might offer in terms of route trees.
I think ND will benefit from have two quick agile receivers plus the two larger receivers offered by a TE and Claypool. Let's face it, Boykin and Claypool aren't exactly the best guys to run quick edge screens to get outside of the defense.
There's plenty of depth and talent available.
If we can't find someone from 2018's freshman class to step up and seize a starting WR position, then there's something seriously wrong with our player development.
Claypool is ready to be the #1, go-to WR position. He's now a seasoned, experienced veteran who understands the game.
I would have to guess that someone between Austin, Keys, and Lenzy, should be able to prove themselves, now that they've had some experience, and will have had another off-season of S&C, training, etc.
If there is plenty of depth and talent I sure did not see it against Clemson.
Sending out 2 or 3 WR's covered by 5 (sometimes 6) DB's, while the Clemson line was still getting plenty of pressure with just rushing 3 or 4, basically quashed things.
The TE's were basically a non-factor just about the entire game when it came to being involved in the routes.
As a whole, I think the WR corp did a decent job, once Ian Book had been starting, since Brian Kelly's hybrid pro-style / spread offense was truly working in the manner intended throughout most of the year. We simply ran into a brick wall in the way of the Clemson defense, which was firing on all cylinders, and Venables was calling a perfect game.
I stand by my statement, that the soon to be sophomores coming up look to be a talented group of kids who will really benefit from having an accurate passer at their disposal.

Best of luck to him.
