WAS he dismissed? Seems like no hard feelings on his part. His Twitter still full of ND stuff.

John was old enough to remember how ND won NCs. He needed to go.

Jacko and Jenks are truly black souls.

Anyone who spends 41 years in the same job is probably either lacking ambition and/or over-paid. He should have managed his career a little better with some moves. He probably let his love for Notre Dame interfere with sound career management.

I lost my job in a national consulting firm after 25 years. I should have moved sooner but I was enjoying the challenging and ever-changing work. They kept some less experienced and lower-paid people. Heisler must have been in his 60s, so he'll never find new employment, unfortunately. I was 52 when it happened to me and since then had three employers, including ten years of self-employment, where I made more money than ever.

We don't know the circumstances and particulars, so we should not criticize Swarbrick. We don't know what his severance package, if any, was. Maybe he was happy to get out. This will slow the rise in tuition.

Shit happens. Life is not fair. Get over it and move on. Become a podcaster.

Ironic messaging from our "brother" board

They have long referred to SID output while he was SID as being from the "daily Pravda" and dissed him every week. The only reason he has been 'rehabilitated' now is because they hate Swarbrick. Their revisionism ala "we just didn't like the message" is Trumpish. They openly mocked him nearly every week during the football season.

Having been in the room planning similar type RIFs and employee terminations, nobody knows the real story no matter how much frequently ignorant hand-wringing is going on. Nobody knows that he was told, when he was told it or the final severance package he received. It was been reported (by that other board) that his role was shrinking for some time. Right or wrong and not that I am defending it, this stuff happens all the time and why ND should treat this one person differently than it has probably treated others who were let go is a mystery to me. But we all know why this has become a "cause celebre" for certain folks (who have frequently derided cronyism at ND and supported firing those determined to be cronies) and it has nothing to do with that person that was dumped.

Great post! They hated Heisler. They saw him as a company man and sycophant. Now they are his defenders.

I suspect as his responsibilities diminished he got lost among the gargantuan athletics staff

Still, would have been much better if he had received a more proper sendoff after his many years of service.

This is indeed a huge athletic department organization now.

Why was he dismissed? Any reasons given? He's been there forever and written so many books about ND

Heisler is by a lot of accounts, an arrogant asshole. I've met him briefly, thought he was an ok guy.

From what i hear, as ND is trying to move into the new era of college football he remained one of the old guards that hasn't been fond of the new directions. And he would make his opinions known.

My guess is, Jack had enough and called in the hit.
