While the actual coaching at RB is important, it isn't as technical as some of the other positions with the possible exception of getting young guys up to speed on pass blocking. What is needed is someone who motivates and can get and keep the top 3 or 4 guys working hard and, of course, being a recruiting ace.
...but even with the departure of Urban Meyer at tOSU, I still don't see it happening. Ryan Day would be a fool to let him go.
No matter who ND decides to hire as the new RB Coach, they need to do a hell of a better job recruiting then Denson did. I appreciate everything Autry Denson has done for ND, but none of the top highschool RBs even gave Denson/ND a sniff. You go to a website like Scout/247, many of the top prospects weren't even considering ND. I remember not too long ago prospects would list ND as a possibility even if they had no intention of going to school in South Bend. Now we don't even get that.
RB is a position that greatly concerns me for 2019 & beyond. Jafar Armstrong might be the most talented, but no way is he going to hold up an entire season taking a beating as ND's main RB. He couldn't even stay healthy as a backup in 2018. He is more of a hybrid player that can line up at RB or WR (and that's the best place for his to excel)
So who's left?
Tony Jones
Jahmir Smith
C'Bo Fleimester
Kyren Williams
ND wants to sustain the success of the running game of the past 2 seasons or take the next step? Sorry, just can't see it with this group.
to see 30-35 year old "up-and-comer" latch on and advance his career at ND. I'm not aware that Denson was a killer recruiter
and that's what we need to have. If you don't have eager and aggressive recruiters these days you are just spinning your wheels. I
hope BK makes an impactful choice here.

Except for Mike Hart and th fact that Alford may be out of a job, the list seems to be pretty random with none of the other 3 gaining anything to come to ND. You've got two Assistant Head Coaches and a Co-offensive Coordinator. Any move to ND either seems to be lateral at best or demotions taken at face value unless Kelly is also going to usurp into Long's space.

Unless the person who came up with the list sees more staff turnover than just Denson, none of these guys fit the open position as RB Coach ( with the exception of Hart) unless they are willing to take a demotion from their existing roles/titles at their current schools. I betting the author just needs to fill content even if the content appears to make little sense.
What in the current role of rb coach at ND would make them interested in coming to ND? To get any of these guys (expect Hart), you would have to add duties that go beyond just RB coach and those would necessarily have to come from someone else's portfolio, most logically Long. Elston already has the Associate Head Coach title and Polian has the Recruiting Coordinator role.
