Like them both got a lot of heart and determination but can’t lead the team to the next level. Every other recruit is important is a solid plus but without the QB it’s close but no cigar.
get us a championship. Getting there is toughest part year after year but I think he can get us there, and like I said with a little luck it can happen.
He has shown the ability to perform on the field over so-called more physically gifted and higher rated QB’s. Can’t measure heart. Who knew Drew Brees would have been as great?
If you had half the heart of THEISMANCARR you'd have made All American by now.

If you consider the dropped balls, poor pass plays, and the Clemson rush all night, Book did better than average at 17-34 in pass plays for 160 yards. Clemson’s line was huge and lack of protection closed many passing lanes. And with the ND rushing attack gaining only 88 yards it was up to Book to win the game. Not fair to put the blame on him.

with his legs and is a very steady passer who makes the right pass a very high percentage of the time. Nobody does it all the time. To sum it up he is VERY good.

I wish they would get a top tier coach.
He's not at the top of the pyramid, since that space is occupied by coaches the likes of Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney, but aside from that disastrous 2016 season, he's been on a pretty good consistent roll, and I see no reason why 2019 shouldn't be at least in that ballpark either. We're consistently getting quality talent, and developing them decently.
I honestly believe that he's finally evolved into the coach that we had hoped he would become, that he finally realized the limitations of people who were holding back this program (Van Gorder, Longo), and made some excellent choices in replacing them.
We're not at the point where we would be on relatively equal footing as the Crimson Tide or the Tigers, but if we can sustain this level of success, then the best recruits will give us a more serious look. It's going to take at least a couple more years, though.
Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma are all more talented than we are and only one of them went undefeated last year and very few times have they gone undefeated.

Go back to “The Open” where you belong.
Measuring an individual player in a team sport by that team's wins and losses. Stupid.
Walter Payton really stunk most of his career, didn't he?

Many great QBs never played in a NC game. Kyler Murray for example. Mahomes. Many QBs who played in NC games never sniffed the NFL. Tony Rice and Golson, for example. Some outstanding college QBs never did either of those things, . . Kevin McDougal, for example. Seems like you are just venting about ND not winning a NC. We’re all bummed about that. But ND has recruited highly rated QBs, . . some haven’t panned out and some lesser rated ones have turned out pretty good. Would we all like to get a Lawrence to ND? Sure. But those guys are few and far between. For every Lawrence, there is a Blake Barnett. To get a great college QB, you have to recruit well and be a little lucky. Jurkovec was the #4 rated dual threat QB. Top tier recruit, for sure. Will he pan out? Hope so. Hope he’s a Kyler, not a Blake. Will ND’s 2021 QB (who is a top 100 recruit overall) be the next Montana? Maybe. Or maybe not.

I have no idea what you are trying to do here.

Completed 68% with 28 TDS and only 4 Ints. The team lost as a team and was the product of a bad HC.
IMO, A ND QB with his talent has to find a way to beat Navy and UCONN at home; I always put a lot of the blame for those 23-21, and 33-30 losses on jimmy..And despite those excellent stats, those losses were in his junior yr, if IM not mistaken..
The D gave up 350 yards rushing to Navy. Against UConn he threw for 330 yards, 2 TDS, and 0 Ints while the D surrendered 230 yards rushing. ND also allowed a KO return for a TD and lost two fumbles against UConn. I think you place too much blame on the QB there.

At least that’s what everyone tells me. So in his third year a light will pop on and he’ll be ready. Shampoo, rinse, repeat. If you recruit a stud QB and he’s not starting by the third year you either have a Heisman candidate as a starter or....
He is a freshman, and he was not an early enrollee.
year.
Unlike Tua and Lawrence, Jurkovec was not an early enrollee. That makes a big difference. And we are months away from his redshirt freshman season, so we don’t know how he’ll fare. Maybe he’ll need another year. Maybe he wont.

Both were early enrollees and still neither started the season as the starter as a frosh. In fact, Tua didn’t become the starter until his sophomore year. And, yes, there probably was some doubt about whether Tua would start as a soph since the returning starter was still on the team. No doubt Lawrence is the starter going into his second season, but he is awfully special. Hardly the norm. Most college QBs, even ones who become great, have question marks as redshirt freshman. There are few “sure things.”
Using Tua and Lawrence as templates skews any reasonable analysis. Those guys were both exceptional, even by “top tier” QB standards.
PJ just needs more time with the 1st team. The kid has everything you want except for experience. He'll be fine.
Maybe ND’s offense is more difficult to learn.
. . . with the exception of one half. Plenty of great college QBs don’t click as freshmen. Haskins redshirted at OSU as a frosh. Even Kyler Murray barely played as a freshman. Lawrence is a freak of nature. He is not the norm. ND’s ‘20 QB and ‘21 QB are both considered top 10 pro-style QBs, for what it’s worth..

torments me at the same time. The college game is won with top tier QB’s period. It’s like how the NBA has become a league that the best teams can shoot three pointers. Nothing else is as important. The last 10 years at ND and the QB’s should show you that.
All I’m doing is pointing out facts. And are you claiming ND hasn’t had a top QB in the last 20 years? Quinn was pretty good for two seasons and Clausen was for one. Both were top recruits. Clausen was an “elite” recruit by any standard.
It like it is Quinn had guts but ND got crushed by tOSU but wasn't all his fault. Clausen never got the chance. Should we go through all the top 10’s since then. Only Golson, who everyone seems to hate got ND at least to the game. I like you hope ND pulls a Montana out of its hat but you must admit all the next great ones over many years didn’t really pan out.
I have no idea if either or both will pan out in college. Don’t know if Jurkovec or any of ND’s QBs will be the next Montana, but let’s not forget Montana started his NC season as the #3 QB on the depth chart.
The kid made his first start after the 3rd game last season and went undefeated during the regular season. I won't list his stats, but they were among the best of them in the NCAA. We have him for this next season then he's likely gone. PJ is next man in and he has all the tools...he's big, has a gun of an arm, and he can run. What's not to like? If you're one of the fools that puts ANY credence in the spring game, your'e a fool. The spring game was a watered down, glorified scrimmage. The Irish are in good shape for years to come at QB. The heir apparent is either Pyne in the '20 class or more likely Buchner in the '21 class. Both are damn good prospects.
Play, not sit on the bench
I do not. he may not even sit on the bench.
I fully understand what he is saying; we lack top notch QBs.....it is a major inhibitor.
The spring game may be a folly but he looked like crap.....
Not sure the QB position is set for years......
But we all differ in our opinions.
Don’t get me wrong but as much as I like Ian he’s under sized and doesn’t have a deep game. The kid on the bench should have been good enough by now to be the starter. No? Why is it only ND where freshman and sophomore QB’s need to learn the system?
Wake up! PJ is your guy, but please send Kelly a memo to wake him up too.
