To the competition. Think FSU in 14, Clemson in 15 - I know we lost both of those but they were tough physical contests on the road where we gave it all we had and ended just barely short - a couple bad breaks with calls, fumbles etc. But as much as these breaks have been beating the boys in some of these big games I can’t help but get the feeling we are owed a break ourselves in one of these games. I really think we are going to come out with a whole new look by on offense and defense - line opens up holes and we get a few big runs early. Book has the game of his life, Claypool becomes a legend this game, and one of the tight ends steps up in a big way. On defense, I think we finally see the arrival of a monster pass rush which leads to a couple Fromm mistakes with interceptions and a big sack strip fumble ( payback for ending of game in 17). Run defense much improved and has a few big TFLs in crucial situations. Defensive backfield is the story of the night on coverage of their receivers. Gilman gets all kinds of love from the announcers and Hamilton has another pick 6 on his return to his home state. Story from a lot of the ND hating media after the game is that yes ND had a big win but their schedule is so easy the rest of the way that they still should not get in even if they win out. Paul Finebaum whines that UGA had an off nite but that the SEC is so hard that if they win out they should be ranked ahead of an undefeated ND. Maybe I’m delusional but Notre Dames history is littered with big wins ( and much much bigger) than this and it just seems like it’s about time for another one.
those teams that lost are way better than this team on both sides of the ball. It won’t be close regretfully. But I will pull for the Irish while I sit in enemy territory.
due one - that we are owed a few breaks. I’m not sure those teams were better - some positions maybe but overall I like this teams athleticism and speed better than some past versions.
