Link: Brian Kelly a 'Moron' for Not Playing Javon McKinley More for Notre Dame
Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.
McKinnley has been on campus for 4 years. He was a 4 star recruit coming out of high school that many teams (including USC) wanted. How in those 4 years is it he's just seeing playing time now? If he showed in practice what he did on Saturday, the coaches would have had him on the field sooner.
And let's be honest, if Boykin doesn't go pro, Young isn't hurt & Austin isn't suspended, does McKinnley even see playing time (outside of special teams) in 2019?
If Kelly/Long didn't notice how good McKinnley is in practice then that's scary. It means there are other players they haven't noticed (Lenzy maybe?)
So I'm guessing he hasn't gone "unnoticed" so far. Regarding McKinley: maybe they coaches just blew it and didn't recognize him, or maybe he is just a guy who doesn't practice well but plays well. Or maybe Saturday was a fluke and he'll never produce again. I hope Saturday was a glimpse of things to come and that he thrives moving forward. That'd help this team a lot.
He doesn’t always see the talent he has on the bench. Often they only see the field due to an injury. And than miracles of miracles he learns. Like Miles B finally seeing the field and now Javon.
Until guys establish themselves, coaches go on what they see in practice. Generally, there is correlation. But some great practice players don't end up do that well in real games. Some guys don't practice well, but do play well when at game time. It is difficult for me to believe that McKinley was excelling at practice and still being kept on the bench for this reason: other WRs in his class saw the field early and plenty. Claypool and Stepherson in particular. And younger WRs saw the field too, notably Young. I don't think Kelly and Long were "stubbornly" refusing to play McKinley. Not everyone develops on the same time table. Some guys are ready early, some guys don't hit their stride until later in their careers. I'm glad McKinley seized the opportunity he got and hope he continues to produce. But I have a hard time seeing it as an indictment of Kelly or Long.
I wrote this before. At my NAIA college, we had a guy start his last game on senior night. He had been a benchwarmer all four years. He scored two quick baskets early, and the coach let him stay in.
He wound up scoring 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and easily looked like the best player on the floor that night. Might have been only that night, but as good as he looked, you have to wonder why he never played more. Some coaches don't realize the actual game talent some of their players have.

......which has gone on for years with some of the best OLinemen in the Country upfront including Quentin Nelson and Mike McGlinchy recently....it's not an OLine issue it is the Offensive scheme and he has refused to do anything about it even though it has cost the Irish numerous games......and that's about coaching

Agreed. Cannot beat Georgia when we cannot pick up a yard when we need it.Need a new offensive line coach, now.
With one minor spelling error.
