ND has to make teams pay for crowding the line of scrimmage.
Funny thing is we have the wrs to do it but don't seem to do anything with that advantage. And the absence of any speed at RB in the absence of Armstrong doesn't help.
Fortunately, we do not face a run defense even remotely as good as is Georgia's. My guess is that their entire front 7 will be drafted high.
Can’t have a deep passing game with Book. No arm strength and he gets happy feet waiting for receivers to get open downfield. He starts looking to get out of the pocket to quick. Defenses will continue to stack the box to stop the run and pressure him. They know he’ll start scrambling when he sees the pass rush. Better have Phil ready cause when Book leaves the pocket, injures will occur.
and our remaining schedule we are still in the hunt for a NY6 type season.....
There really is no less left that is very good.....Michigan sucks, Stanford sucks, VT is terrible.....
Maybe #25 Virginia?
No reason to expect less than 11-1 if we really are as good as we played last night?
Who would we lose to?
Michigan will probably be back by the time we play them and be ranked at their place, though I think we will beat them all.
There should be NOTHING to worry about
Whether we like it our not, Book is probably our best option at QB and he is very limited in terms of the threat he possesses.
If we had any kind of running game, ala Wisconsin, we could get away with an average qb. Unfortunately that is what Book is and that is why we will lose 2 more games at least.
I don’t buy that
Like I said, any team with a decent DC and reasonable talent can beat us.
You don't win big games with average talent at two of your most important offensive positions hampered by a dog shit offense.

almost even in total yardage, 14 first downs, they had 18 first downs
I havent seen the time of possession
We had the ball with 2+ minutes and a chance to win the game
Were we significantly deficient in certain areas? Of course, but look at the final outcome.....we were very close
You know for me to admit that is saying something......they did not dominate us in any manner
And this year, that offensive scheme is additionally hampered by average talent at both QB and RB.
The big failure of Kelly, above all else, is the total inability to develop any real talent at QB. This fact screams so loudly this year it couldn't be any more crystal clear.
Had he developed Wimbush, who is immensely more skilled than Book, Book would never be a starting qb on a ranked team. The tv dead heads comparing him to Theisman is laughable. And chances are Book will be starting next year( unless you are part of the delusional group that thinks Book is going to ever play in the NFL) too because of the say said inability in 1.5 years to fix Jukovec's delivery in a eeriley similar way he was unable to fix Wimbush's. One might want to chalk up Wimbush as a one-off Kelly failure. But look at the history of Kelly with qbs and you tell it is all part of a pattern and no one-off.
Instead of accepting the fact that his qbs are never going to win him games, he needs to evolve a scheme (can you imagine a Wisconsin-type scheme with ND's overall talent?) that doesn't put his offense in the hands of overloaded and/or undertalented qbs. Georgia, by itself has chased off two qbs to the point where it is possible that 3 qbs who were all at the same school might be playing in the playoffs while Kelly has yet to produce one.
We played what everyone on here seems to think is an elite team almost even
Yet we are questioning if we can beat the rest of the teams on the schedule?
Isnt there a major disconnect there unless:
Saturday night was an aberration and we really didnt play that well
Georgia isnt that good and we still havent seen them play a really good team
Otherwise why will we have a hard time beating the remaining 9 teams on the schedule?
We dont have to play Alabama, Clemson, OK, OSU nor any other team in the Top 15.....we are ranked 10th and jsut went toe to toe with #3.....
What am I missing D2?
ND had one drive the entire game and Georgia isn't that good? That is a downright scary thought.
If Georgia isn't that good..or more accurately, they didn't play well on Saturday, it is even scarier that we played well and still lost!
Let the season play out and we'll see. ND will be no better than 9-3.
I am trying to be optimistic and see the best is Saturday nights game
We were supposed to get embarassed by the #3 team in the country. Instead we lost by 6 pts and could have won the game in the last 2 1/2 minutes.
I know we lack a running game, Book cannot throw long (and will never play on Sunday's), and we seem to lack a stud at WR.
But DESPITE all those things we hung with Georgia, the #3 team in the country, at night, under the lights, between the hedges, in front of a very loud 95% Georgia crowd.
That is commendable and indicative to me that we should win the rest of our games.
If we can't beat Virginia Saturday afternoon then all i can say is.....Saturday night was an aberration and we are overrated.
But we will beat Virginia.....no question
We gotta start acting like we DESERVE our ranking positions......we are either #10 or we're not. #10 team that just played Georgia close should have no issue with Virginia.

Stay away from politics on the Open Forum.....was getting me nowhere and raising my blood pressure.
I apologize for the name calling bullshit over the last couple years
I have a feeling politics aside we arent that different.
Definitely sounds like we have similar beliefs on the football team. We have improved a great deal in the last couple years; we should be thankful for that and hope for the best.
