Book struggled so why not put in another QB to get playing time with 5 minutes left. What if Book gets hurt next week? Then what? I don’t understand Kelly at all in trying to develop QB’s.

What are your chances to get on the field, and when, at other schools? Where does your kid actually WANT to go? How many years does he want to go before trying the NFL? In some cases, depending on answers to these and many more questions, the answer would in fact be "Yes, ND it is."

It seems to me that Jurkovec was a "top QB prospect." And it certainly seems to me that Buchner is.

You implied that parents steer "top QB prospects" away from ND because they see what happens at ND. Which raised the question: regardless of how Jurkovec is turning out or being developed, wasn't he a "top QB prospect?" And isn't Buchner? He's the highest rated ND QB prospect of the Kelly era. I'm trying to figure out what we mean by "top QB prospects" in this context.

Right? Or am I missing something here?
That was obvious with Golson, Wimbush, Kizer, Zaire and Book. They were recruited expecting better results but all the special hired quarterback coaches in the world can not fix what was never there. Aside from Book, where are they now?
Notre Dame’s task is to win games and at this point the coaches figure Book is the best chance they have. Aside from firing Long and Quinn and Tommy and installing an offense mid-season that someone on the roster can excel in, wtf is Kelly supposed to do? Suppose they benched Book and played Jurko until he lost a couple games and then went to the third string QB- would that make everyone happy?
And I’m not sure what you are saying here.
It was a 2 score game. If Doerer didn't miss that kick, then it would have been a 3 score game and it they probably would have played Jurkovich the last drive.

He's also 2 years younger and was horrible in the spring and blue-gold game.

After 10 years why would you? If I was recruiting against Kelly I would tell you that “ND is where good QB’s go to die.” Can you deny that Troll?

to me were never stars. But if you want to blame kelly for not developing them i cart argue against that.
If anything, Kelly has been ascending in recruiting "top QB prospects." Jurkovec was Kelly's highest rated QB prospect to come to ND. Tyler Buchner is currently committed and is a higher rated prospect yet -- one of the top prospects in the country holding offers from Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, USC, etc.. I think the "ND just can't attract top QBs" line is a little off at this point.
Not without a new QB coach .
